I just bought a set yesterday at Golfsmith. I had a set of Mizuno MX 23s with Dynalite Golds s300 and I really liked them but the only problem was trying to keep the ballflight down. So i am walking thru Golfsmith and I see the M685s on the shelf. The salesman tells me that they just got them in two days ago and that Barry Schneider (chairman of Macgregor) came in himself to do the product knowledge with the staff.

Well they look great at address with a not to thick top line and the head seems a little shorter then the 1025s were. When you set the club down at address it has a nice clean look with a touch of offset. I swear that when I put down the club in the address position I knew I was going to walk out with these. To me they look perfect.

They came with flighted Rifles Lite 5.5 and had black and grey Golf Pride New Decade Multicompound grips. The fit and finish on them look top notch. I really belive they may be the best value club at $699.

So I went from Golfsmith to the golf course for a emergancy 9 to see how they work. Feel wise they are not as soft feeling as the Mizunos but still give you that satisfying feel when I hit one well. And for the times I didnt hit it well I found them to be forgiving. They are not as forgiving as the MX 23s where I found that I could hit anywhere on the face and they still flew high and straight, but I will give up a little bit of forgivness in exchange to being able to control the ball flight better, especially here in windy Texas.

All in all I would say that I perfer these over the 1025cm that I had last year and think that Macgregor has a winner with these. Macgregor is saying Better Technolgy, Better Materials, Better Design, No matter what the cost, and I belive them. I was so impressed with the irons that I took the new MacTec driver into the launch moniter and ended get it also.

I was able to get a loaner set last month from the MacGregor Rep that services my local shop. My index is 5.5 and I shot 33 the first nine I used them. It was at Adios Golf Club in Florida which is no cakewalk. Of course I immediately ordered a set and got them last Monday. I've played 4 rounds with them and they have officially removed the MP60's from the bag. They are EXTREMELY forgiving. Not as soft as the Mizunos but soft enough.

My only complaint is the decal in the cavity. I had a demo 6 iron and with a little eating it was easily removable.

Liptrot - how is the distance compared to the MP60s? Also, how would you descrive the ballflight? I was able to hit these into a net, so I couldn't see the flight. The progressive softness is an interesting concept. I'm trying to decide between the Macgregors, 735s, J33 combos, or the MP60s. May also take a long look at the Gauge Design.

I would say they are a little longer than the 60's though the distance control with the 60's may be a little better. I need to play with them a little more to see if there are any consistency issues in terms of distance. As of now, I am extremely satisfied. The 60's look so damn good in the bag I want to play them but the Macs are way, way, way more forgiving. They set up really nice behind the ball. In terms of flight they seem to fly on a nice penetrating mid trajectory. I have DGSL's in the 60's and I would say the Macs fly a little lower. I have always like rifle shafts.

Liptrot - were you able to remove all of the decals? If so, how were you able to accomplish this? I was able to demo the MP60s on the course this weekendl....they were very nice. If the M685s are even nicer, they must be some great sticks. I've officially confused myself --- don't know if I should go with the J33 combos, M685s, or the MP60s. Decisions, decisions.

got to hit these guys at a demo day and came away very plesantly surprised. the decal was a bit gawdy to say the least but at address they look as nice and any other player cavity on the market and feel better than most. the best part was the little add on's that this club had, stock rifles and new decade grips are a huge plus for them (actually the black and grey combo look nicer than the original black and red IMO). if i didn't have x-tours in my bag right now i'd have probably gotten a set of these guys. very nice feeling yet still really easy to hit.

I just listed a set on eBay with a Buy It Now price of $329.99. They were only used for one round and one practice range session. Almost mint... They have DGS300s in them, stock from MacGregor.

As for feedback, I really like the short irons, but the long irons weren't as good for me as my 735s and 695CBs. It's possible that I needed to bend them upright, as my Titleists are 1° up from Titleist standard. But, I didn't, and they're for sale.

Here they are with the decals taken out. Liptrot showed me how to do it, over a kitchen stove to loosen glue, tweezers to pull out decal and glue remover and soap to clean it up. I think they look better like this, not too busy.
