Ogio Flight SS with Shling

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd pass this info on if anyone was interested in buying one of these bags to try out the new Shling carry system.

They are on sale on Golfsmith.com for $179.99 and if you use this coupon code: EPS612RCS

you can get an additional $25. off for a grand total of $154.99 plus free shipping. Code is only valid until the end of the day.

I just received mine yesterday.. :idhitit:

I just ordered one from Golfsmith.

The website was not showing the reduced price - $175. The promo code did work, though.

So I called Golfsmith about the price. The lady was very helpful. She manually corrected price, accepted the code, and now it's on its way.

Thanks for the heads up.

I will post a review; probably next weekend after a round or two.

I've been waiting for the Schling for nearly 2 years. I hope Ogio delivers on their promise.

Thanks... how about a quick review? Is there much room for rain gear in the side pouch? Thanks

Chas

I have yet to use the bag but will give it a run this weekend. My first impression from carrying it in the house is that it balances very well and seems comfortable. How comfortable it will be carrying for 18 holes?? I'll let you know after Sundays round. As far as the side pocket goes for rain gear, it looks small but the pocket extends all the way up the bag. Its not the biggest pocket but you should be able to fit a rain jacket and pants. The bag has ample pockets and the water bottle pocket is easily accessable while walking which is a must if you walk 90% of the time like me.

I just checked the website and see that they no longer have the $179.99 price posted (now $199.99)..

I'm glad Golfsmith was able to give you the lower price. I know what you mean about waiting for 2 years..same here ever since I saw it on the Golf Channels coverage of the PGA Merchandise show. Like you I hope it was worth the wait... :idhitit:

Here are some real pics:

Much better looking than the Vision. The blue may go nicely with my Ping gear.

Anyone have pictures of the Vison? I'd be curious to compare the 2.

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

Thanks for the eBay link to the better images. I appreciate that.

Question --- what is GolfSmith's return policy? Did you ask specifically in regards to the Ogio bag?

The blue was very tempting, especially since I currently use the blue Nike Pro (old style) bag. I went with the white Ogio, hoping that it will match my Titleist gear (yes, I feel like a girl).

... i have this bag in the black/white/red version. beautiful design. pockets are perfect. there is enough room for rain gear as this was a big consideration for me as well.

i am having some trouble getting a comfortable fit on my shoulders with the shling system, but sticking with it for now.

fyi ... the flight bag does not have the torq strap as stated. imo the flight bag is much nicer than the overly big vision bag.

I received my bag yesterday.

My wife laughed at me all night because I was constantly "testing out" the full bag while walking through the house. Not that I blame her.

Initial impression --- I am very pleased. The real test will come this weekend with a full round.

Strap and shoulder pad configuration will need some fine tuning, but I am not concerned.

The only real complaint I have is regarding the pocket configuration for balls and tees. I keep short and long tees in separate compartments. The Flight bag is short at least one small/medium size pocket, IMO. Also, while the scorecard and pencil pouches are nifty and very accessible, they seem to lack something (not sure what). Also, the ball holder seen on other OGIO bags would've been nice, too.

All that said, it's mainly nitpicking. This seems to be a a very good carry bag.

Well, I was able to get two rounds under my belt with the new FlightSS this past weekend and the results were...... :D

The shling system worked as advertised. The bag is not the lightest available at 4.85 lbs but felt much lighter thanks to the shling system. I was able to walk 18 on back to back days with no real discomfort. The shling applies pressure straight down on your shoulders while walking instead of the front of your shoulders , like regular straps. Because of this I felt no fatigue in my arms/shoulders durning or after my round. The bag balances nicely while walking and as stated the water bottle pocket is perfectly located.

Will this bag be better than my Hoofer II.... :stop: only time will tell but so far so good.

Doesn't sound like an overwhelming endorsement - personally, I think Ogio tries to do too much with the pockets and their cute little cell phone holders - it's just extra weight that is really not needed.

One needs a big pocket, little pocket, valuables pocket, ball pocket and a place for a water bottle pocket - 5 various pockets - that's it - it's a carry bag - and it looks a little bulky.

They could bring it down to 4 pounds by eliminating some unuseful extras. And for that price? Wow. $150 seems barely OK for the Schling if it works - $190 is ridiculous. IMHO.

Don't get me wrong, I like the bag alot. I'm just not the type of person to call something the greatest thing since sliced bread after only two rounds. I need to see how the bag wears and how the shling performs over an extended period of time. I'm hoping that after a few months I'll feel the same way( which I'm sure I will). As far as price goes, they are on sale at Golfsmith again for $179.99 for the flight and after the coupon code I only paid $154.99 with free shipping. This was more than a fair price for a well made carry bag IMHO.

I'm glad you're enjoying it - I looked at the Ogio line yesterday - not the Schling - I was looking at lightweight walking bags - they just seemed a bit bulky in the ball pocket areas - if they would cut out the number of pockets and cutesy, worthless weight additions and make the bag a bit more streamlined and lighter to 3.9 lbs (like the old Flight), they'd have the holy grail of bags.

As it is, it's just another bag - and the Schling version is expensive. My son's Flight at 3.9 lbs was $99.

Something is definitely wrong.

But I'm glad you're enjoying it. Just waiting for the perfect bag. These OEMs seem to circle around it but don't quite hit the mark.

It's disappointing.

Have only played two nine hole rounds with my FlightSS. First off, I like the Woode method of club management. It is way better than my Ping Hoofer Extreme eight way top. The pockets seem to work out good for me also. The only pocket that bothers me is the cell phone one. A cell phone should not be on the course at all. The Shling seams to distribute the weight more evenly, making the bag feel lighter than others of the same weight. I am still fine tuning it for the most comfortable position, but overall it was comfortable right out of the store. I wish that there were more color options. I'd prefer all black. Based on astetics my Ping with the American Flag wins out, but the FlightSS out performs. Another problem with the Ping were the legs. They don't always go all the way up getting caught in my pant legs. I have only played alone with the Ogio, but am ready for grief from the Sunday morning leaguers.
