Can I reshaft?

Is it possible to pull an Aldila shaft out of one of my drivers and put it in another that already has a stock shaft, or does removing a shaft ruin it for future use?

Yes, you can do it, but it needs to be done by a competent club maker using low heat and a high quality shaft puller. There is a chance that the shaft could be ruined in the process of pulling it (the better the clubmaker the lower the chance).

 

Also, make sure the tip sizes match up, or at least that you will be putting it in a larger hosel size than the shaft tip (i.e. a .335 tipped shaft into a .335 or .350 hosel, a .350 tipped shaft will not go into a .335 clubhead).

In addition to diameter size, make sure you have the proper shaft length for the desired club. Because bore depths vary by club, you need to measure to make sure the club will play to your desired length.

 

For example, if you pull a shaft from a TaylorMade driver (non bore-through) that plays 45", it will not play 45" in a Titleist bore-through unless you blind bore the shaft.

LOL, one more addendum I just remembered, if you're pulling the shaft from a bore through head (like Titleist or Callaway), there's no way you'll be able to reuse it.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm thinking of pulling my Aldila NV shaft out of my Ignite and replacing the stock shaft in my Clevland Launcher 460 with it. I'll take both to Golfsmith or somewhere to see if they're willing to try it.

So I decided to have the NV pulled from the Ignite and put in the Clevland Launcher to lower the ball flight. Then I decided to go with the NVS in the Ignite to raise the ball flight a smidge. My launch angle with the Ignite/Aldila NV shaft combo is about 10.5*. My launch angle with the Clevland Launcher and stock shaft was between 20* and 22* with a backspin of anywhere between 4500-5300. According to the impact tape, no matter what I tried, I was hitting the ball in the center of the clubface, but back on the heel. I was told that was a big reason for the high backspin and the ballooning effect.

 

Did I just totally screw up two drivers or will I be ok?
