Niscur24's Golf Bag - 2016 Update!!!!! NIKE TIME

Recommended Posts

Finally found some time to get to reshafting the fairways!

JDM 2 Dot 3 wood and VF 3HL are getting identical Elements Earth 8X's each tipped a tad over .5"

VF 5 is getting an ATTAS Internation 9X tipped a little under 1"

I DID NOT tip each shaft according to UST's recommendations as I typically like my heavier FWY shafts to be in-between S/X

For anyone curious the JDM 2 dot does take a collared ferrule however a generic golfworks ferrule I had in my box fit it perfectly. The Ferrules for the VF adapters are the same as the 2015 vapors and I picked them up on ebay. These should all SW out between D4-D6 which is right where I want them. The Attas/Elements shafts weighed out a full digit higher than what they advertise which is what I was hoping for. The Earth 8X both weighed 90g and the ATTAS 9X weighed 100g. The head weights on the Nike's were all good and I didn't need any weight added to hit the SW I wanted.

Here are a few comparison pics between the JDM Fairway and the 2016 Fly's

Finally able to get out an hit some balls. Realized its been 4 months since I swung a club which was way to long. Vacation, kids, work, and other hobbies got in the way but I was at least able to make it out for a good 2.5 hours today!

Broke in the TW15's and all the new woods I have been collecting over this little hiatus. Brought out the VR Combos/Wedges too as its been a while since I hit them.

14445947_597004243840316_4695494264966353163_n.jpg?oh=d08a115eba7ba4281ad762b2bbfb4f37&oe=58730135

Started off hitting the ball great with the irons. That awesome forged feeling brought me back from hitting the Fly Pro's/Engages. However I immediately remembered that I cannot stand the DGPRO's, mostly the long irons, and how much tour velvets tear my hands up. Got a blister on my right middle finger after finishing up with the 4 iron and it held on almost through the woods. Moved onto the new woods starting with the VF5/Attas combo and was hitting everything off the toe/low bullets. Switched of the adapter to upright and increased the loft to 18* and boom same ballflight as the 2015 flex (same shaft) but man it felt so much better. The 3HL initially felt weird to me even though I didnt need to change the lie setting. With the elements earth shaft and the standard setup it was different hitting a ball that had the height of a 5 wood but the length of a 3 wood. Switched to the JDM 2dot 2 wood and HOLY MOTHER OF GOD what a solid feeling golf club. Shafted with the same shaft as the 3HL and the same length this thing was like swinging a hammer. Just a solid thwack and a ball flight that was penetrating and running. After hitting this thing a few times I went back to tinker with the 3HL and switched it to 16 deg and immediately saw a better ball flight. Not nearly as awesome as the 3 wood but much better than the 5 wood look. The normal hosel JDM wood feels so much better than the 2015 flex and the 2016 flys, can't say it any simpler than that. Just an incredible club head.

Move onto the Vapor Fly with the WB 80X. I ordered this direct from Nike to play 2" under standard (44") however forgetting that Nike measures weird its a little bit shorter than 44. But something about this club length felt so right once I started swinging it. My arms felt relaxed and I could swing freely and hard as I wanted. And the ball just went. Could hit it anyway I wanted, meaning I could actually draw this club head, and the ball flight was just like the 3 wood. The VFP with the Miyazki @44" from my my 2015 Pro was a little more unforgiving with a slight fade and a higher ball flight. However I wasn't too impressed with the "tink" sound the PRO puts out. The Fly just sounds nice and solid and it was weird to hear the pro TINK. Put the WB in the Pro and things improved more of a straight ball flight and lower trajectory. Halfway through hitting the pro, the blister gave up and pain began. Moved onto the F6+ with black tie 65x.....I WAS NOT feeling this club at all. Swinging it in the house it felt great but once outside and hitting balls with it both the shaft/head felt off. The feel from the club head didn't really feel like I actually hit the golf ball. And the sound while not to bad didn't help either. Once my head was around and I looked up the ball was definitely going, albeit right and much more of a power fade vs my typical cut. I definitely need to tinker with this guy a whole lot more both in shaft length and weight as well as the sliding weight setting. 45" and 65g just felt off vs the 44" and 80+ grams that were in Nike.

This was the first few swings with the 2016 Fly/WB, just hit this club so solidly.

14517415_597004217173652_782303621697086224_n.jpg?oh=1b40e2bb01cc649fa8f5af9f723a0051&oe=5868463D

Overall not to shabby for taking a long break and hitting new woods. Once I finished with the F6+ my finger was killing me and instead of moving to chipping/short game I tried to work back down the bag and naturally ended full swings turrible.

Finally got my Scotty fix after all these years thanks to Global Golf's sales and trade in bonuses. 34" Sea Mist Monterey 1.5 and it came with a SS Mid Slim on it in excellent condition which appeared to be shop wear only and it looked as good as anything sitting on the rack new at GS. Wanted a JDM Cameron cover too, since GG didnt provide one with the putter, to go with my anime headcovers. So I happened to score this JDM Museum and Gallery Seaside Sandy which is totally awesome from Proclubs on ebay.

Well the Cobra F6+ experiment is officially over for me. Reshafted it this week with one of my favorite shafts....Rip'd NV 85 TX @44" and I still hit it like absolute garbage. Brought my Vapor TW w/Voodoo XNV7 and it was night and day between the two clubs. No matter the adapter/weight setting I could not find a setup that would make the cobra work for me nor could I hit the middle of the face. Everything was off the heel of that club. So off to the BST to trade the head for something else. I'm thinking M2/Srixon745. This is the second Cobra driver I couldn't get to work for me after a failed Bio Cell Plus experiment last year.

Finally swung the Vapor Pros too...they are amazing. First time swinging s300'a in a LONG time and they felt soft/could really feel me loading them vs what l have been hitting but the softer flex but still worked fine.

I also realized I need to move on from Jumbo grips completely. For years I was always a jumbo grip user but have recently, for about a year now, started playing normal sized grips. I brought out my JDM vokeys and legacy woods which still have jumbos and man it felt so weird and I just wasn't comfortable at all with them.

Still can't find a single driver to replace any of my Nike's yet! But it just further solidifies that for me the Vapor lines flat out work. But the hunt is entertaining!

In my never ending attempt to find something to beat out my Nike's (I'm a club HO so I tinker) the Cobra F6+ couldn't hack it so it was BST'd and an M2 is on its way to me...well a second m2 after the first from Global Golf did not meet condition expectations.

I also got rid of some of my excess Nike stuff that I replaced with the 2016 versions. So my 2015 Vapor woods are all gone now with the exception of the TW model. Also trying to get rid of my JDM Legacy woods as they arent really used. So up until today I was officially down to 3 fairways and 3 drives to put in play which is entirely too FEW. BUT....I have picked up some new toys this week to go with the M2 and they just arrived today. A pair of Yardbird's from Niblick spec'd out exactly how I wanted them complete with hot melt to get the head weights right.

3HL @16.2* 2.25* Open and hot melted exactly to 215g

5w @20.5* 2.25* Open and hot melted exactly to 225g

Gave Ken @ Broken Niblick the exact specs I was looking for and he friggin delivered! And the price for both with Tax (we are both in Florida) was amazing!

Also picked of one of those terrific Tad Moore putters from ebay. Its a beauty but light so I picked up the NSPRO Heavy Putter shaft to try to get the overall weight up to what I'm used to. Now I need to get out in the lab and get this 3 clubs built up and wait for my M2 to get here in the condition I paid for.

Nope, its very expensive at the public/tourist courses. Most of them are run/cater (how it was explained it to me) to the Japanese and are setup like courses in Japan where it takes all day to play. Since we were borrowing a car from a family member I didn't want my wife/kids to be stuck while I was out all day. I should just go on base to play because those courses look nice and are priced/play like US courses but it just never happens. One day I will though.

Just got back from the range and I was killing everything but driver today. Felt good to be swinging freely and have everything go where you want it too. Another great session with the vapor pros!

Driver was fading a little too much today. Could easily go back and forth between my Fly Pro my fly 3hl and hit it the 3 wood perfect and push the driver a little too far right. Everything would be playable but the driver was losing yardage.

If last week was large steps forward...this week was 2 large steps back. Everything except driver was completely off today. Swing felt like hot garbage, all handsy, lower/upper body and head on different planets. Felt like my shoulders/arms where trying to hit a draw and my lower body head wanted to hit a fade. Since I do not play for a draw....ever...it was pretty ugly. Right shoulder/arms dropping way to inside. occasionally I'd get it back into a little groove here and there but overall just turrible.

Couldn't really evaluate the aeroburners because of how the day was going but good lord when I caught one they felt amazing and the ball flight was a thing of beauty. Something the vapors could not replicate, even the JDM 2dot. What a solid feel and sound after being hotmelted. I will say they are very forgiving because where I was hitting it today the ball still went fairly straight but nowhere near the launch of the nutted one.

Ugh...one of those frustrating days.

Its finally here and in the condition it was supposed to be in!!! Clubhead weighs in at 203g with the metal tp adapter. I have a 10g weight for it but I really only need to add 2-3g overall. Debating the weight swap or tip weight. Its getting shafted with the Elements Fire 7x in RBZ graphics. Weighs in at 80g which is perfect!

Well first range session with the M2 is in the books. Took out the Vapor Fly to compare with. Today was mats day but I managed to swap the tees around to find one that was closer, albeit a little higher, to my normal tee height. I hit about 30 balls with each then swapped back and forth between the two. Because the grass range is being worked on the range was playing its absolute longest since mats are at the back. Wind was left to right which amplified my normal fade.

Clubs are both at 44" X untipped with the d+ in the vapor at 84g and the elements fire in the M2 at 80g. I did not add the 10g weight to the M2 because it felt fine without it.

Today in general was a good day with woods. I tend to really focus on sweeping the ball on mats because as a digger with a steeper swing I hate bouncing into the ball getting help from the mat. By time I was done with the aeroburners I was nice and shallow hitting up on the ball with driver nicely.

Right off the bat I was crushing the Vapor. Being teed up a little higher was producing a flight and run out I typically do not see. Even the sound today was completely different. I was hitting the ball in places at the range that I hit when the grass tee are open and further up. My miss today with the vapor was the double cross, playing for he fade and pulling it straight/draw. Let just say the Nike was not going down without a fight. The nike was set to 9.5 neutral. Head to head at the end was where the real story was and ill get to that in a sec.

The first swing with the M2 was a blast right where I was aiming dead nuts in the middle of the face and DEEP. Hosel set to upright standard 9.5 loft. The swings after that were a little more sporadic. I was definitely fading the ball with the ball starting right and ending further right vs the Nike which was starting a little left and coming back right in front of me. I switched the adapter to 1 tick below upright which should have flattened the lie to match closer to the nike while opening the face and lowering the loft. The ball should have gone more right, but the results were much better. I could tell that this club is more fade biased and found myself trying to aim a little more left to get the ball to come back to where I was intending for it to land. It was definitely long and felt/sounded wonderful and by the end I was hitting it pretty well. The miss with the M2 was definitely a slice though.

Once I got to switching back and forth things got interesting. By this point I was about 140 balls and over an hour of beating balls striaght since I started with irons. I was tired and my swing reflected that. I started missing both drivers out towards the toes vs dead center. The Nike did not fair well once I was missing the center of face. Shots while on track where aiming were high/getting taken by the wind and coming up shorter than a few minutes earlier. The M2 on the other hand still produced a shot that was completely playable and still out there. There were several shots where I knew I did not strike it well only to look up and still see the ball on track. With the Nike I was looking further up and right. I did manage to catch a few back to back between clubs perfectly and from what I could perceive they were pretty comparable.

All in all I like the M2 but I was not blown away today. Misses were better with the M2 when I was tired and was off a little but when I was fresh and in a groove the Nike was just great today. I'll be playing this coming weekend and will use the M2 only as I know how I hit the Nike on the course.

Well time for a post round update....

Before Saturdays round I adjusted the adapter the other way to one tick the away from upright which closed the face and added a bit of loft. I'm using the all metal adapter TP adapter which should have made it 1* closed and added .5* of loft. Of course I don't know what the 9.5 head measures at but appearance wise it looked identical to my Vapor Fly at neutral. I was trying to find a way to start the ball a little bit left to hit my standard fade vs seeing the ball starting straight/right and staying right. I did this before I ever got to the course so I would NOT tinker with it while warming up.

Hands down the best round driving the ball I've had in a while especially in relation to where I thought I was aiming for the ball to land and where it landed. I hit the driver 13 times on every par 4/5 except #1 which did not setup for a fade at all. (the 3hl Yardbird worked great off the tee) I played a course I had never played before with several dogleg right holes with tree lines down the left side with little to no rough which was intimidating because I had to hug the tree lines and hit the fade to keep the ball in play. Changing the adapter allowed me to hit the fade exactly how I intended. I was 11/13 driving with one power fade that ended up too far right and one "I got this 275 all carry water" on 18 that my weak ARSE only carried about 260 vs playing it smart. The M2/Fire shaft combo produced decent roll out vs the Vapor/WB sort of falling out of the sky and landing within a few yards of its initial impact spot. Needless to say I was happy to be driving the ball so well.

Of course I could have been just swinging well enough on Saturday that either driver would have worked just fine but hey the M2 was what was in my hands so ZOMG its awesome!

Well One Month later......

The M2 will not be out in play this weekend its in Time Out.

Took my oldest out for some range time to knock off whatever rust was present from a little 2 week break to get ready for this weekends New Years Round. Switched the Vapor Pro's for the VR Combos and VR wedges, switched in the MOD 00 for the Tad Moore and brought out the Legacy Black 440 and Vapor TW to get some swing time with the M2. Hit the irons and wedges great being able to hit the fade but more excitingly the draw. The FW's were a little spotty at first but damn I was struggling with the M2. Everything was once again starting too far right and staying right. Frustrated I switched to the TW/VoodooXNV7 combo and BOOM Fade/Draw/Straight on call and surprised by the draw I put it away thinking it was possessed and went back to the M2. Again Right and more right. Switched to the Legacy/HD7X combo and POW Fade/Draw/Straight on call again so I also put it back thinking no F'ing way am I drawing the ball with two woods now. So again I went back to my M2 and again it was disappointing. So it got a Nike head-cover on it (I put my Anime HC on the gamer) and it sat in the bag the rest of the time and it was a shootout between the Legacy/TW. In the end I'll be bringing the Vapor TW out on Sunday because I started to hook the legacy at the end where the TW was staying on line with a nice little draw. Of course this means I'll slice or snap hook the hell out of it Sunday but oh well.

Once I was finished with the woods I worked backward down to my wedges a killed everything including the FW's, which weren't cooperating during the first pass, with nice little baby draws. The only thing I was trying to work on the whole time was trying to stop by back swing keeping my left arm/shoulder nice and straight vs breaking down a little and going past parallel. Then trying to maintain that straight arm on the downswing through impact. But whatever my brain/body thought it was doing was totally working. I was drawing the ball more then my typical fade which means on Sunday I'll aim for the draw and hit the fade LOL.

Very disappointed with the M2 today.

  • 2 weeks later...

Well after a truly horrific round of golf on Sunday I proceeded to buy more stuff! Twas on of those days when I warmed up great, my group was giving me mad props, then BOOM it left on the drive to the teebox.

NEW GOODIES

Brand New Tour Issue 815 DBD 9* head, GBB 9* with 665 Evo TS, and the wife gifted me some Atours that I reshafted with PXI 6.5's.

Also pulled the KBS tourV 120 from my Fly Pro gap wedge and put it into my JDM Vokey Forged 48 to make the loft gaps better.

Going to be picking up a few shafts/adapters this week to play with both cally heads. Probably another copy of the elements fire thats in the M2, and older 7321 matrix, and an older 7B3. Also going to throw in a 73x5gt and Rip Beta 60x to round out the group.

So after a nice discussion with my wife, who really is great about me and golf club purchases, we have both decided to not spend anything outside of need for our kiddos and our current home to save up a good amount of fundage for home #2 that we are about to close on/build. So I officially signed up for the 2017 bag(s) is set challenge and we roll with what I got going forward. Just figured out the SW's for the shafts I'm going with using my trusty old Myostrich Golf Excel spreadsheet. I have used this excel spreadsheet for over a decade and I'm used to it with every club I build and I typically target a calculated SW of D2-D4 based on shaft weight. I usually go at 44" for driver but feel like experimenting at 44.5" with the new shafts this time around. I can always cut them back down to 44" if I need to. Will need to add 3g to the GBB eventually if I decide to play at 44" and a shaft in the mid/high 70's, probably via holtmelting, unless I can find a heavier weight for the sole weight.

GBB D3.4 204 44.5 3 52 66 46 323 Beta 60X

815 DBD D3.4 207 44.5 52 66 46 323 Beta 60X

GBB D6.9 204 44.5 3 52 88 46 344 8X07X

816 DBD D6.9 207 44.5 52 88 46 344 8X07X

GBB D6.2 204 44.5 3 52 84 46 340 VC8.2S

817 DBD D6.2 207 44.5 52 84 46 340 VC8.2S

GBB D2.2 204 44 3 52 75 46 333 HD7X

So I had my first range session since my last terrible round of golf on New Years Day. Brought out all of my new stuff I picked up at the end of the year.

Just gonna say this....Those blow out Adams XtD Limited irons with the cyborg look are friggin incredible! The wife bought me these for xmas and after selling the stock KBS shafts I was only into them for $50. I put a set of PXI 6.5's I had laying around in them. They are money. The ball feels like it explodes on the faces and the 4 iron sounds like a damn fairway wood. The finish is crap just like all the others have experienced with copper showing through etc. But who cares!!! These easily rival my Fly Pros!

Had both the GBB and 815 DBD TC heads with the following shafts:

Rip Beta 60X

HD7x

Speeder VC 8.2s tipped1"

Evo 665 TS

It was windy yesterday so distance wasnt on the table but was really seeing which I could control better. Put the RIP in the GBB first at D/-1 hosel settlings and thats all she wrote. With the sliding weight inline with the front weight I was hitting the ball dead straight. Couldn't turn it over but could fade it as needed with it never slicing. My misses are right so it was good not loosing the ball right. But I was determined to draw the ball since all reports say this thing wants to go left. So I slid the weight to draw and boom I hit several nice little draws. Could fade it as well but no ball went right unless I intended it to. Very Impressed and this head/shaft combo and will be taking to the course.

Move onto the DBD. Since its a TC head I didn't know if it would be hot melted a certain bias etc. But after one swing yes it is based on the sound alone. Set it as D/S at the hosel and put in the tipped 8.2s and everything went RIGHT. Immediately thought I may have f'd up the speeder tipping it but elevation/loading the shaft wasn't a problem the ball just wanted to go right like my M2. My previous Cally Alpha was shafted with a Phenom 80x and was amazeballs so I was at least expecting something similar with the DBD/8.2. Switched out the 8.2 for the 665 Evo and the longer shaft (oem cally length) was not working for me and I'd need to cut it down FELT GOOD but at almost 46" its too long and felt uncomfortable. Put the HD7 in it and things got a little better with controlled fades. Then I realized I was setting up for the draw I was getting with the GBB and once I straightened myself out things improved with the the previous shafts but not what I wanted. Went to the Beta that was working in the GBB and had a little bit higher flight but still couldn't turn it over. This club head reminds me of my M2 and feels "toe heavy" and even with the heavy weight in the heel it still felt that way. So I'm going to pull all the weights out this week and see if I can see whats in there. And I'll try to move the melt towards the heel or let it seep out etc. The head weighs 207g and since it sounds so muted I have to assume there is melt somewhere in there.

Then I went back to the Beta/GBB/xtd's and saw those pretty draws again. I was totally impressed with the irons and GBB though and had an otherwise great ball striking session with everything so twas a good day. I will figure out this DBD because I absolutely love the way it looks behind the ball.

AAANNNNDDD Its been two weeks without a golf purchase!

I never even swung the stock KBS tours. I do love PXI's though. Very comparable to my KBS tourV 120's in my fly pro's almost being identical in flight. But the PXI feels a little better. Might take out few clubs from each set this weekend and compare the two.

Well its been 4 weeks since I made a golf purchase...I have noticed that once you get out of that looking for something to buy mode it does get a little easier.

Took the DBD/GBB/M2 out yesterday for some range time with my oldest. The Atours again were awesome and Im really liking these sticks. The speeder 8.2 will end up in a 3 wood. Just cannot get along with it in a driver. I don't know if tipping it was the right thing to do but I play untipped X in everything else and this tipped S isn't working. Once we move into the new place I'll pickup a Cally 3 wood to throw it in since it already has an adapter on it.

GBB/Beta 60X was great again. Not separating these two. The HD7X will stay in the DBD as well. Changed the hosel to D/+1 and putting a 10g in the heel position (adding 3g overall) produced shot shapes that I wanted and I was able to draw this guy a few times. Its not hotmelted either after some flashlight investigation but it feels/sounds sooooo good. Much like my Legacy Black 440 which also produced the best results with the HD7. The M2/Fire7x was pretty damn good today. Closed the face some more and this resulted shots that were much more inline with what I was seeing with the other two. Range was up again so I could easily fly the tree line and from what I could see visually each driver was pretty comparable distance wise.

  • 3 weeks later...

So far on week 7 into not buying golf crap! Haven't swung a club in two weeks because my other hobby is back up and running diverting some of my attention. Just found out I have $75 in rewards points at global golf....If a big coupon stack sale comes up I may be a buying something LOL!!! As much as I love this place I do have to say being distracted by car stuff and not visiting as frequently really dampers the NEED to buy golf stuff.

In the last 3 years.....This is the LONGEST I have ever gone without having something golf club related bought.

Right now its an iron LS2 with the CTSV supercharger on top. Used a 6.0L truck block and LS2 heads and all new internals to basically rebuild a stock LS2. I ran it NA for a while but just like hoing golf clubs, I needed more POWA. So I topped it with an LSA blower and some adapter plates for the heads so it will fit. Then I put the Vette ZR1/LS9 cam in it. It has long tubes, 3.75" exhaust, 6speed plus a full interior and a car seat in the back for when the kiddos stroll LOL. The only thing left to do is have my tuner smooth some things out and work on getting heat out of the engine bay. The V8 in this little chassis ran hot to begin with NA. Now that its blown its running summer temps in the Florida winter/spring most likely due to the extra aluminum/tubing/heat exchanger etc crammed into an already crammed space. Going to add an under tray/ducting and some hood louvers on the sides of the cowl to hopefully get the air out the engine post radiator quicker. Then when its running right I'll charge the AC for the summer time.
