7.5 vs 8.5 vs 9.5 etc?

I'm around a 15 handicapper and am currently swinging a 975D 7.5 with a Proforce 75 X shaft.

I'm thinking about jumping up to something like a 905R to take advantage of the newer technology and forgiveness that comes with a larger club head.

I think my real question is how does a 7.5 975D equate to in a 905R as far as 7.5, 8.5, 9.5 etc? Should I be going up in angle? Is the best answer to this question "Get a on a vector launch machine and find out"?

I'm thinking of going with the V2 75 X as I don't really have much experience with other shafts.

The trend these days is to shoot for a high launch angle and low spin. Many of the new drivers are constructed with a low center of gravity to achieve this, although it all depends on your swingtype, ballspeed etc.

You are right, this would definately be the way to go. I went from a 8.5* 975J with DGS300 to a 10.5* 905T with titleist speeder (which I didn't get fitted for and payed the price losing a lot of balls to the left) to a 9.5* X460 Tour NV65S that I did get help from a launch monitor for. The best is to go in with an open mind and find the loft, shaft, head combination that is right for you.

I couldn't agree more...I went from a 975D 7.5...Got a 905R 9.5 V2 65S, I liked it, but wasn't thrilled...Went in with an open mind...Now I'm hitting a BS J33P 10.5...Spin rates down to around 3k now..Played my first round with it yesterday, and I have never hit it straighter or longer...I thought I would always play a Titleist driver...Remember..Open mind

I know this will vary some based on ability, but when I go try out new clubs I'm never sure what to look for and don't really want to rely on just what a salesman tells me.

for you or in general? for me, s/s about 110, about 13º, just under 3000 rpm sems to be the best, but it all depends on how you attack the ball (upswing, downswing, swing speed, ball speed....etc) so get on a launch monitor with a good fitter (demo days are good for this) and see what works best!

Golf Achiever Driver Clubfitting Chart

go this link and it will open a pdf file from golf achiever with ball speeds in 10mph incriments, and give you launch angle range and spin rate range for that ball speed. pretty useful. found this after going to two seperate golf shops and seeing that they use this chart to fit driver characteristics.
