High Trajectory
I am getting used to my new SQ Tour 10.5 with a grapholloy blue shaft in it. I hit it good but have a low ball flight with it. I want a high trajectory but no matter what I do the ball just doesnt get up. With different shafts I have tried in it later on it is higher so I am thinking of switching it out. So my question to you is what shaft I could put in it for a nice high trajectory. I hit the ball very consistently and swing speed is about 95-98 and ball speed about 145-148. Any suggestions I could look into would be great, thanks in advance.

The Blue is a low launch shaft and you say you hit it well but you just want higher launch. I would suggest you try the blue prolaunch which is a high launch shaft. Your swing speed is right in between reg and stiff so if you want more distance go for regular, more control go for stiff.

You didn't mention the weight of your current shaft but obviously going lighter will increase swing speed even more thus slightly increasing distance and going heavier will bring down your swing speed increasing your accuracy but with slightly less distance.

Thanks for your suggestions but I dont fully understand what it means to be tipped, does it make the ball launch higher? I know it seems like a stupid question and should know but have never been told.

And also the shaft is 65 grams so I will have to do some testing whether I want it to be Stiff or Regular. I hit it about 240-245 about now so am not worried to much about my distance I just think a higher launch angle would be better and probably increase distance some.

Thanks again and any more suggestions would be helpful.

Tipping it means, cutting off some of the tip section to make the shaft play slightly firmer than the

way it comes from the factory. Its something clubmakers do all the time. It works well for final tweaking

of the shaft. I'm not a huge advocate of it, but it does work.

based on the information about your swing its very difficult to determine which shaft and flex would work for

you. However there are several good lines to look at. Aldila NVS, Accra Tour 60, some of the softer tip Fuji's

are you wanting a little more trajectory or a little more spin? the blue is very low trajectory shaft and tends to play stiffer than the flex stated. its also a tip stiff shaft. i too have been recently searching for a new shaft for my sasquatch. i knew how the nv performed and used the callaway optifit system to see how the nv performs in the callaway and then from there try other shafts to compare there performance. i tried the blue, prolaunch, nvs, and v2.

the blue was lower launch than the nv and less spin, very boardy feeling.

prolaunch was a little more spin, much higher launch, stiff feeling, but not over stiff

nvs was much higher, much more spin and very whippy feeling. if you were to use it, you would definetely need to tip it to control it.

v2 was between the blue/nv and prolaunch/nvs in trajectory. more spin than the blue, and nv, and a tad more than the prolaunch. much less than the nvs. had the best feel of all. not overly stiff, but not whippy either.

it was between the prolaunch and the v2 for me in the sq head. i'm getting the v2 installed right now. i just thought the prolaunch would be too high, even with the low spin.

i will mention to be careful about spin. the sq tour head spins more than the sq head. for me during a head to head on a luanch monitor with same loft and same shaft there was 1,000 rpm difference. be careful that the shaft you get doesn't create too much spin.

Before you decide changing your shaft, have you ever check:( you might need a pro for this )

1. Ball possition at addess.

2. Swing (delofting at impact)

3, Is your shaft to stiff for your tempo or not?( are you loading it properly or not ?)

If you do check those 3 are ok, then you might want to get on the launch monitor to found out if it the loft or the shaft need to be change.

I agree with Joe. I thought i was hitting too low with my sq tour driver even with 10.5* loft, im made a change my my swing which I tried limiting lateral shaft and focused more on rotary hip turn. I seem to hit higher.

One thing didn't change at all is trying to draw the ball. I can do it with my other clubs but not this driver. Apparently, there are others having the same problems. All i ever do is hit fade to the right. If i tried harder, i just push it to the further right so I don't know if its the shaft or not.

Blue is a tip stiff shaft which promote more fade bias if you don't have enough swing speed to load the shaft.

Pick a softer tip design shaft if you need to draw the ball easier.

Thanks for the great info. About checking my swing...I work with a teaching pro and he said it was alright. Next I teed it higher so I could swing up at the ball more and that definetaly helped but my mishits were way worse with it fading way more to the right. I am going to try and get to a launch monitor soon to see what I can do. It is better news to hear it most likely could be the shaft and I am hoping to get it out of there and get another one. Thanks for the good suggestions golfernut on the shafts I should look into. But for now the only thing I can do for matches and such is to act like I am going to hit a sweeping hook and that seems to straighten it out some. Thanks again for your help and I will get back to you when I get a new shaft put in. Thanks, Cameron

Joe,

Is V2 75 a good one to replace? I also looked at Prolaunch 75 as well. What are others that I can look at without spending a ton?

Thanks.

V2 75 i midhigh kick point shaft, I'm not sure if you are looking for that type of spec shaft.

There are a ton of shafts choice out there. I need to speak w/ you on the phone to be able to narrow it down...even better if you can give me the numbers of your launch monitor session for guidance.

tungsten,

i'm in a similar boat as you. i too have a sq tour with aldila nv-75. launch monitor shows its pretty good for me, 150 bs, 12.7* la, 3,100 rpm. i'm not going to touch it. however i also have a sq that had a aldila nv-75 and the launch monitor numbers were bad, 147 bs, 12.5* ls, 2,000 rpm. so i was looking at the prolaunch 75 and v2 75 as a replacement shaft.

i was able to use the callaway ft-3 fitting system and compare the differences between the prolaunch and the v2 against the nv. the v2 had about 500 more rpm, and between a .5* and .8* more launch angle. the prolaunch had about 300 more rpm and 1.2* to 1.6* more launch angle. i would recommend being careful about the spin because the tour head has more spin to it.

i've dropped a v2 65 into the sasquatch. i thought the 75 might be a little too stout in the kick and the tip and trying the v2 65 in a 905R and ft-3 it had a great feel. i only use a 75 gram shaft for the extra weight. if its too light i can always go add a little lead tape. i'm getting back tonight and will post a review.

The Fuji Tour Platform 27.3 or the 26.3 if you want the weight to be lighter. Works well for most people who are not fast, and is extremely playable.

Forget about the tipping comment above, people are tip crazy on this forum. Tipping is a great way to make a perfectly designed and playable shaft work like something else, and it is a great way to void the warranty on most factory installs.

I'm so glad someone said this.

I swung a Diamana 73 that a friend had tipped 1", it played like a grafalloy blue. If you want a tip firm stick, buy a tip firm stick.

So after all of this talk, I still want to switch shafts but today at a tourney I played with it seemed to work a lot better. My driver swing was doing good and I was ripping them straight down the fairway with a slight fade...a lot less than before. I could feel myself swinging harder at the ball and more from the inside than before. I still hit it too low though and am hoping to have a new shaft soon.

And on the other hand...will cutting it to 44" drastically change anything or would it be fine?

Lopping off 1", your swing weight will drop 6 points!

That's D2 to C6!!!

If you get the weight back up (it's going to take a lot of lead tape) the shaft will play softer due to the excess head weight.

If you're hitting it well now, just leave things as is. When you change shafts just install it at 45.5" and have your clubmaker hotmelt the head or add lead tape. If you still don't like it, take off the last 1/2 inch and make up the head weight.

That is interesting but I hear a lot of people cutting their shafts to 44" and they leave it at that. Couldnt you just put some kind of plug at the end of the shaft to make up for the weight that was lost there? or is there more to it than that. I will check with the clubmaker to make sure I am doing everything right so nothing will go wrong. Thanks again for any info.
