Launch Monitor Results
What shafts out there put the least amount of spin on the ball with a medium to high launch? I recently got on the launch monitor, Here are the Results

All averages: Hit approx. 15 Balls with each

Taylor Made 510tp 9.5 with Speeder 757 x
Launch Angle: Between 10.5 - 11
Clubhead Speed: 118
Ball Speed: high 160s
SPIN RATE: 4300-4400 rpms

Bridgestone j33 460 9.5 with Diamana 63 x
Launch Angle: Between 8 - 9
Clubhead Speed: 118
Ball Speed: mid 160s
Spin Rate 4000 - 4100 rpms

Taylor Made R7tp 10.5 with speeder x
Launch Angle: Between 11.5 - 12
Clubhead Speed: 119
Ball Speed high 160s
Spin Rate: 4400-4500 rpms

Those are the drivers I currently have, I need some good advice as to which one I should be playing with and what shaft I would need to possibly get the spinrate down. Any input would greatly be appreciated.

What kind of ball were you using on the LM?

This might be the answer to your question right there. Range rocks tend to spin way more off the driver than premium balls.

How's your ball flight? Are you balooning? LM numbers can often err on the high side since they're often calculated instead of measured, especially when you're putting up the numbers you've got.

You've got some of the lowest spin driver heads, so if that's not the case, then you could benefit from an even stiffer tipped shaft. A heavier Diamana might be a good choice lik the 83X (since it looks like you like heavier shafts). Some might say Fuji VTLT, but that will cut your launch angle as well as spin rate, so i don't think that's a good option.

Another possible issue is angle of attack, if you're hitting hte ball too much on the downswing, you're going to get high spin numbers.

With your clubhead speed and ball speed your optimal launch should be between 11 and 13 depending on the type of shot you are trying to hit, (high draw, low draw, cutter, fade ect). In addition, you should be looking for a spin rate between 2350 and 2800, but this can partially be controlled by what ball you are selecting. If you know what balls you were hitting off the monitor that could help, although only by about 300-500 rpm not the 1500 or so you are trying to bring down. One other thing to consider is how hard you load at the top, if it is a smoothe tranistion or a hard load hard downswing because with higher launch shafts they can be very tempermental at the loading point. I've played with the fuji 757 quite a bit and it requires a very strong load which could be why you are finding a lower ballflight with it. I do alot of clubwork and play alittle better than scratch golf, even though I just joined the sight.

Preliminary thoughts:

Look for a extra stiff midsection with a softer butt and softer tip. This combination makes it so you flex the butt end and transfer the power into a higher launch softer tip. anytime you have flex in the middle of the shaft you will increase spin

preliminary thoughts:

high end - diamani redboard - will do exactly what you want but is expensive, if your going to go high end, this is the best shaft for the characteristics you want. may be the best shaft I have ever swung

very comperable - accuflex evolution - great shaft that will definately lower spin

harrison mugen - haven't tried yet, but I have similar specs to you and have had great success with harrison - don't discount harrison, it is the greatest shaft noone talks about, why do you think els, and sabitini play with them even though they are 200 dollars less than the big names.

fuji tour platform 27.3 - will do what you want but might be alittle weak for your specs

cheaper alternatives - ust irod - will do what you want but lacks the feel other better shafts, although I have found great success with the performance

Some great replies above me. Like Joe said, swing issue. I have the same problem with my swing and I have switched to a Diamana Red Board 83 X and see a huge improvement. My swing speed is lower than yours so you will need to do a little tipping. Hook up with a great club maker like Joe and he will fix you up.

I was using a Bridgestone B330 s on the monitor. It is a achiever 2 that we own here at the range. I'm a +1 handicap and a minitour player and I don't have a steep swing path so could it be possible that the monitor is off somehow? We bought it used off of ebay a few months ago and just recently got it up and going.

330S is a high spin ball (although it shouldn't be producing those kinds of numbers). Do you usually play it? If not, get back and use the same balls you usually play. Try to keep things as consistent as you would when you normally play (wear golf shoes, wear a glove if you normally do). The fewer variables there are, the less chance there is for inaccurate numbers.

I don't know much about the achiever, but ask if it measures spin rate or calcluates it. If it measures it, then it's probably pretty accurate, if it calculates it, then it might be off.

I've had two clubfitters I trust very much tell me that vectors can be on the high side especially with spin numbers.

EDIT: High spin rate is something you can measure with your eyes on the golf course. If you're balooning balls especially into the wind and getting very little roll on your drives, then the chances are you may be hitting it on the downswing, might be time to take a lesson, even the best golfers can get a little out of whack from time to time. :stop:

Defenitly agree about the best golfers can get out of whack..lol..Know all about that. On the course I'm carrying the ball as far as I want to but it is ballooning a little bit and I'm not getting hardly any roll what so ever. I've never been into the exotic type shafts the one I've got in my Bridgestone is because the rep told me that it was the best when I got on staff with them, but how much are we talking for the 83 x redboard.

260-320 is retail installed right now for the redboard, but I wouldn't put one in and try it for that kind of money, I would hit one before I bought that type of shaft. The 83X is somewhat of an accurracy shaft though, so comming off of a 757, the 73X would do just fine in terms of maximizing distance and trajectory, also I find the 757 and fujis in general have more of a fibery feel ( like you can feel the graphite tightening and twisting) than the diamanis. You should have some TM R7 tps or r5 tps with diamani blue 83's in them lying around the shop or range. It is a different shaft than the redboard, but you'll see that though spec wise diamanis and speeders can be comparable, feel wise they are slightly different. Personally I think the mistubishis perform tighter, but the fujis have better feel. The 63x seems alittle light to get any good shaft feel at your swingspeed, some I'm not even sure it is the wrong shaft, maybe just the wrong weight. Remember, a 63gram shaft that gets cut and installed plays even lighter. I think with an 110mph swing and a 60 gram shaft its tougher to get consistent load and release feel from the shaft. If you can't pinpoint the moment that shaft loads, and the moment it releases, your not getting good feel from the shaft.

I agree with Joe, but since you say that is not the issue.

less loft, stiffer tip section
