Anyone else really dissapointed with the quantity of Master TV coverage?

The Masters coverage is what it is. Never changes and probably never will. Augusta National basically tells CBS, "This is when you can start coverage, these are the holes you can shoot on. Take it or leave it". If you notice, they only show live coverage of the back 9. That's the way Hootie and his boys want it.

As far as HD, I wasn't aware that any golf tournament was shown in HD. The number of HD cameras necessary to cover a golf tournament would be insanely cost-prohibitive. That being said, if any tournament were to be broadcast in HD, it sure would be The Masters.

The hours of broadcast are exactly the same as last year. The networks are the same two networks. There is a little more coverage by The Golf Channel this year than last year.

I think you are all wrong about HD. I think it will be in HD on CBS.

On Sunday, the leaders tee off around the time the broadcast begins, and you will be able to see them on all 18 holes, although Augusta features a little less front nine coverage than NBC might have at a US Open, for instance.

So, if I am not mistaken, that covers all of the complaints above. I think your complaints are mostly misplaced...

THE MASTERS® TOURNAMENT AND CBS SPORTS

TO PRESENT 18-HOLE COVERAGE OF 2006 MASTERS ® IN HDTV WITH LARGEST HIGH DEFINITION GOLF PRODUCTION

For the fourth year, CBS’s standard analog and HDTV productions of the 2006 Masters Tournament will be unified and will provide 18-hole coverage in HDTV's highest definition format with 5.1 Channel Surround Sound.

In the largest HDTV golf production, CBS Sports will utilize 54 high definition cameras including, for the first time, 10 hand-held HDTV cameras. The unified productions will be produced in HDTV's highest definition format, 1080i, and downconverted for the CBS Television Network's analog broadcast. This production technique also produces a better quality analog picture. Whether watching in widescreen HD or traditional 4x3 analog, viewers will hear the same golf announcers and see the same camera angles, replays and graphics.

The 2000 Masters on CBS was the first golf tournament ever presented live in HDTV on network television. The 2003 Masters marked the first time that the standard and HDTV productions of the Tournament were unified.

CBS Sports will broadcast the 2006 Masters on the CBS Television HD Network on Thursday, April 6 and Friday, April 7 (4:00-7:00 PM, ET, each day) and Saturday, April 8 (3:30-7:00 PM, ET) and Sunday, April 9 (2:30-7:00 PM, ET) live from Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. The third and final rounds of the Masters will be broadcast simultaneously in standard definition by CBS Sports on the analog CBS Television Network.

Beginning in 1993 the Masters experimented with HDTV on a limited basis to discover how the new system could improve the presentation of the Tournament to the television audience. The 2006 Masters broadcast will be presented in the highest form of HDTV with 1080 lines of resolution and over two million picture elements which makes it six times sharper than standard definition television.

Two hundred and fifteen of CBS's owned and affiliated stations are currently broadcasting in digital, covering 99.99 percent of the nation.

All action is available in HD. Universal-HD (Thursday, Friday and Saturday all morning) and CBS-HD (Sat. afternoon and Sunday afternoon.)

Plenty of HD coverage. Not sure why you guys are complaining about HD coverage.

The complaint was about masters.org not listing the HD options available. Glad it's in HD but as an example, I don't believe I get the HD channel for Thu and Fri. Since Masters.org didn't seem to list it I had no idea what channel it was going to be HD broadcast.

Its all about QUALITY. Have you not noticed that the Masters Board does not want commercials every 10 minutes like all the rest of tv?

Right! This is a class production with little interruption by the usual snake oil salesmen. As a result, the cost is extraordinary, and the time is less for tv.

Enjoy!

CBS has had coverage of the Masters in HD for a few years, now.

Two years ago, CBS also broadcast quite a few additional tournaments in HD as well. Last year the lack of an HDTV production truck limited their HD broadcast capability to just the Masters.....If it could only be one, thank God it was the Masters!

Anyway, NBC will commence HDTV broadcasts for golf in May. Their first will be a Champions Tour event followed by the USGA events and their PGA tour schedule in the fall. ABC is still not on board with their coverage and since this is their last year with a Tour contract, we won't be able to see The Open Championship in Hi Def except on Thursday and Friday when TNT will show the action from Hoylake in Hi Def. ( I believe the TNT HD channel is not available via Direct TV, but only thru cable systems.) TNT HD will also show the Thursday and Friday PGA Championship rounds in HD. Also look for the Universal HD channel to cover the US Men's and Women's Open Championships in HD to augment the weekend coverage for NBC (since Universal owns NBC, or vice versa )

Yeah i watched every second of the Masters today and I have for the past 3 years. I can understand what the other people are talking about though. Any other huge sporting event...for example...Super Bowl, World Series, NBA Finals, and Stanley Cup you get to see every second of it. Today the coverage started when some of the best players were already done with their rounds. To me....this sucks because I like watching great players play a tough course like this. Plus watching replays of something just isn't the same as seeing it live. I know tomorrow they will switch up the groups so you will get to see different players but still...it is the frickin Masters.....I want more!!!!

as explained at the beginning of the broadcast, each hour will have 56 minutes of golf and 4 minutes of commercials. you're not gonna find this kind of coverage anywhere and it's EXACTLY how it should be for all tournament coverage as far as i'm concerned. i'm recording every second of it until the final putt is holed

3.5 hrs of high def coverage on Thursday, Friday, 4 Saturday and about 5 hrs on Sunday. Saturday and Sunday have 56 out of 60 minutes of pure golf. Yep...."terrible coverage". You see the last few groups from the first tee to the scoring tent....what are they thinking....I am protesting by not watching next year. Sorry guys, don't get what the problem was. Are we upset that we did not see Charles Coody's charge up the leaderboard on Friday? They only have 90 some players to start with and only 40 or so make the cut....you don't need 12 hrs of coverage.
