New box for the new HX Tour 56?

IHFN

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know how to tell the difference between the 2005 HX Tour 56 and the 2006 version? I like the ball, but shred the cover too much. From what I've read on here, the cover is better in this years version.

Thanks all!

Cool. I'll keep a lookout for that. Any idea on when they are coming out, if they aren't out already?

...the old ones say NEW in the upper left hand corner. the new ones say "improved" in the upper left hand corner. they are MUCH more durable.

Even better. Thanks man. I love how they really disguise the new balls so they can keep selling the old ones at the same price and the average player won't have a clue about it...

Man, I thought it was just me! My wife got a dozen logo overruns from her company, and gave them to me for Christmas. I do like the performance of the HX Tour, but I noticed after one round that the ball I used (I almost always use the same ball for 18 holes) was incredibly scuffed. I mentioned this to my wife, who is used to using crappy Top-Flite balls, and she figured it was my "bombs away" style of play.

My second round, got the same results. The ball is good (though maybe a little too much spin for my game right now), but at $40 a dozen I would expect to get at least 2-3 rounds out of each ball. Are all of the softer balls so easy to scuff/shred?

If the new ones are more durable, I may add them to my rotation, as I love a softer ball on par-3's.

Soft is a loose term now-a-days. The HX Tour 56 to me is one of the softest performance balls out there, and as you know, it shreds... I've played the Black Max and it is softer than some, and it doesn't shred at all. The ProV1 and ProV1x are very durable, but I personally can't stand the V1x. Its like hitting a Top Flight to me, and I have the swing speed for it...Thats what drives me nuts about the V1x. If the new cover is durable for the HX (I'll know after this weekend), then its a sure keeper for me.

The new boxes are more glossy, rather than a more matte finish.

The HX.tour (non 56)'s new boxes say "imporved" in the upper left hand corner. I am not sure about the HX.tour56's but I imagine it is the same.

They are the real deal. The HX.Tour is going to be the ball I play with all year. I played 27 holes with one this weekend. There were peices of the cover that were gone, but it was not totally killed by a wedge and a huge chunk of the ball missing. I was very very impressed.

its a nice topflight though :stop:

new HX = new cover = less shredding, but lets see if anyone can tear one up w/ a TP wedge, because i schooled an old 56 with the TP, the ball was black and blistered HAHA

Very nice Topflight. Just damn expensive for one! I'm just one person that isn't obsessed with length. Already got plenty of it, and courses don't really demand it very much... Maybe I'm the crazy one...

:stop:

I had the same experience with the old 56... But I miss that soft feel of a ball.

i hear ya. i work at a golf store and we had both the old and new boxes side by side and a guy picked up the old version and i had to mention to the guy that they had a new version for the same price but more durable.

At least you told the guy. When I bought some yesterday, they had the Improved Tour, but just the New 56 up front. I had to ask if they had the improved 56. I understand wanting to get rid of old inventory, but its still upsetting. Callaway just needs to allow them to drop the price to 30 bucks, they will sell like crazy then...

JR I do not think that is the new box for the 56's, go to this site and you can kinda see the box

http://www.callawaygolf.com/en.BALLS.HXTour56.html

You can see there is an IMPROVED on the 56 box, plus the HX Tour 56 writing is a little bigger and bolder. It matches the look of the HX Tour that you posted.

Sorry that is the best picture I have.

Yes, the box says "Improved" for both the Tour and the Tour 56. Also the ball says HX.Tour 56 instead of HX Tour 56.

The balls feel great chipping and putting. I only hope the tornadoes today don't wipe out the course for tomorrow. I'm ready to play in some slop with my new balls! We are only supposed to get a couple of inches of rain tonight...

Thanks for the update, i bought both of these at Golfsmith, they said that was the new 56 as well. I guess i need to get another box huh?

Yeah, go back and ask for the Improved ones. What you got is what they had up front in the store. I had them go open the shipping boxes for the new ones. Of course I know the owners, I'm not too sure how random workers might react to that... Good luck!

I have always preferred Titleist balls, but after reading some posts I went and bought a dozen of the new improved HX Tour.56. Just chipping in the back yard I am impressed, they feel great. Hope to get out and play with them soon, and I'll try to give an unbiased report.

I wasn't able to play Saturday. We had upwards of 5 inches of rain in our area. I don't mind slushing it around, but that is a little extreme. I'll probably go get a quick 9 in a couple times after work this week. I'll let you guys know what I think of the balls...

Thanks

I played 9 holes yesterday afternoon. The durability is much better, but there still seems to be some issues with it. It isn't as durable as a ProV1 or BlackMax (those are the two most recent balls I have tried). Instead of a full wedge shot ripping pieces of the cover off (2005 version), the cover just gets little groove cuts in it. I was trying to tell if they would actually effect ball flight and I don't believe they would, but hey, what do I know about ball flight physics?

I still really like the performance of the ball. Iron shots feel great and I get just the right amount of spin with the ball. Chipping is excellent with it. I can play any kind of shot with the ball.

In the end, I'm still a little dissapointed in the durability factor not being completely taken care of. I don't think 1 ball would last me 18 holes. I will find out soon though, thats for sure. But the performance is by far the best between the ProV1, V1x, or the Black Max...

Side note, I really liked the Black Max until I played on a windy day, the ball ballooned no matter what kind of shot I hit. It was really strange, I've never seen the wind effect a ball as much as the Black Max. And I used to play Tour Balata's for a long time...

Also, don't ask me about driver distance, I can't give you something that will tell you what you want to know. I didn't really hit a solid drive, but was still 280-290. I know with the Black Max, on a good drive it will be 300-310+... So, like I said, who knows what those numbers mean...
