Titleist 735 lie adjustments

I am interested in purchasing a set of Titleist 735s and noticed that they have a modified bore through shaft (shaft plug). Can the lie angles on these irons be adjusted as easily as other forged irons?

 

Also, I'm torn between these and the 690.cb's. Has anybody tried both and prefer one over the other. I've hit both off of a mat and like the 735s a little better. However, I can get the 690s quite a bit cheaper. Thoughts?

Bend away, in any direction. It's not a true bore thru, it's a weight plug dropped in to move the COG closer to the center and away from the heel side of center.

 

The 690's are a lot closer to the 735's than the new 695's. The 690's are a smaller head size and will be less forgiving in the long irons. The 690's have plenty of loft to help get the ball up in the air.

 

I'd rate the 735's as very forgiving in the long irons with their progressive cavities and wider soles in the 3 and 4 irons.

Should be no problem to bend. I had mine bent 3* up.

Personally, I disagree about the 735s being similar to the 690•s. I think the mid and long irons in the 735s look and feel more like the 695CBs than the 690•CBs. (I own all of them...). The 735s and 695MB and CB look like they have a little less offset, and are a little higher in the heel than the 690•CBs.

 

As for loft, the 690•MB, 690•CB and 695MB are all the same. The 735s are 1° stronger in the 6 - PW. The 695CB are 2° stronger throughout the set.

 

I find the 735s to be fairly easy to hit in the long irons, but would say the 690•CB are more forgiving through the set. The cavity in the 690•CBs is deeper than the 735 or 695CBs.

 

Overall, they're all fairly similar - so I'd choose based on your preference of look and feel. Obviously, the 690•CB are more forgiving in the short irons. And there ARE deals to be had. I got a backup set of 690•CB NIB for $550. But don't go for price - go for what you'd rather have.

 

And yes, bending is no problem.

I am a PGA Professional and wanted to upgrade from the Titleist 762's last year. I was in the process of searching for irons but didn't want to go away from Titleist. I almost went with the Nike Pro Combo's until my Rep. treated me poorly (common with Nike for some reason). I then talked with my Titleist Rep. and she told me about the 735's coming out in about a month. I told her to ship them out as soon as possible. Couldn't be happier. I've hit Mizuno's and the Nike's and TaylorMades of all models and none have the soft feel like these do. The Mizuno's really surprised me because people always talk about how soft they feel. Anyways, they feel soooo soft and very powerful, even when struck off center. Best irons I've ever hit. Small face which I love yet very forgiving still. Anyways, the Rep. and the specs we received at our pro shop say that the Chrome plated model can be bent safely up to two degrees and the Satin finish ones can be bent up to 4 degrees. The chrome is sweet but I've talked to several people that say they only look that way for a few rounds and then ding and dent like crazy.....so they don't look that way for long. I have the Satin ones and while I do like the Chrome look better, mine still look fantastic after one season and a winter of practice. The satin finish on the face wears off but doesn't affect play so no biggie!

Thanks for all the info. I decided on the 735s and found the satin ones on ebay for a decent price (1/2 long with S300 shafts). I can't wait to get them and try them out on the range. It's going to be hard to pack away my 690.MB's, but I was just too inconsistant with the 3-5 irons.
