Graf Blue vs Blue PL

True flex?

Simply I have read that the Blue plays close to 1 flex stiffer(s is more like x) and the PL plays true to flex.Does the PL play like NVS being they are both low bend?I am use to NV65 s(not NVS).Finally if using a low bend shaft I assume it affects the driver loft chosen.Im looking at maybe G5 , X460 or 464.I always prefered 9.5 wth nv 65s or stock speeder s in 983K.If going to NVS or PL should Driver loft stay at 9.5 ,9,or 10 (the most).Does going 10.5 with these shafts kick the ball up too much given my experience?My SS 95-100.Thanks

I have used both the blue and the prolaunch blue. In fact the prolaunch blue is currently in one of my 3 woods. The blue is really too stiff for anyone I have ever met. You are right that the regular plays more like a stiff, but I would be tempted to leave this shaft alone unless you are a super high ball hitter. It hits the ball very low.

 

The Prolaunch, on the other habd, is a wonderful shaft for the average to keen player. It gives a much higher launch (something we pretty much all need if we are honest), but does not baloon. My swing speed with driver is 105 mph and I use the stiff, although it is almost a bit too stiff for me.

 

For your swing speed I would recommend the 65 regular or stiff for your driver (depending on length - more than 45 inches maybe the stiff) and the 75 regular for your fairway woods.

 

Most grafalloy shafts are around 1/2 flex stiffer than marked IMO.

I agree with Geeza's assesment of the Grafalloy shafts, but if you want a lower ballflight (or if you want to go with a higher lofted driver for added forgiveness) you might like the original Blue in R flex. I've played the Blue and the S version is too stiff for me to get the most out of on all but my very best swings (SS roughly 105 with smooth tempo), but the R plays very nice for me and I'm a fan of that shaft. IMO the R flex Blue feels and plays similar to the S flex NV (haven't tried the NVS or R flex NV) but I like the Blue better. Although it's somewhat softer than the Blue, the PL does feel firm and stable to me as well, I think because the torque is quite low (lower than the NV even in R flex), I had no worries about overpowering or ballooning the S flex and even the R flex versions I've hit did not feel too soft for me to get good results with. For me the R flex Blue plays a bit lower than the S flex PL, in a 9.5 degree driver I would favor an S flex PL and in a 10.5 loft I would want the R flex Blue or Comp NT (I prefer to hit drives that give me some roll). I just acquired a new T-60 4 wood with stiff steel and if I don't like how that plays I will definitely reshaft with either the PL 75 (S flex) or the Comp NT 85 (R flex) because I've experienced positive results with every Grafalloy shaft I've used.

Well said, I have the Comp NT 85 R in my 4 wood, and was hitting my SQ a bit too low with the stock stiff shaft, so I decided to play the ProLaunch 75 R at 44.5". Hit it into the simulator, seemed to raise my ballflight, but we will know on Saturday when I get out to the course again (I don't like being a college student, I wanna play more golf!!! :stop: :D )
