TaylorMade R5 re-shaft

I have a TM R5 Type D 12* driver . It has the factory 55gr reg flex shaft with soft tip.I bought the 12* because of all the talk about using a higher loft driver and I will say it is easy to hit straight. MYy SS is 93-95.

I'm averaging around 230 total on my drives and I know that with my SS I getting near the max I can expect. However as my swing and confidence with this driver has improved I have really been making good contact and feel that I "might" could pick up a few yards with a bit lower ball flight.

So I'm thinking about trying a different shaft that will lower my ball flight so I can stay with the 12* rather than droping down to a 10.5*.

Any suggestions ?

I would pick out a UST V2 in the weight you prefer. It is ALOT of shaft for the money. No Rayon or Tour Spec is $200 better than that shaft in my opinion. Very tight specs and great performance for the money. You will not be disappointed.

The stock MAS shaft is pretty nasty. The V2 makes sense or a Grafalloy Blue.

Thanks for the info guys. You could be right on with the UST V2.

I spoke with one the largest custom clubmakers in the country a few days ago and he suggested the V2 also so i will probably give the V2 a try IF I don't go off the deep end and get the new R7 460.

One last thing, I'm suprised no one suggested the Aldila NV. I thought the NV was supposed to be good at lowering ball flight.

I just got a V2 in my R5 yesterday and am extremely pleased.

i suggest NV, great feeling shaft!!

never tried the V2, so it's really up to you what to choose,

but NV is solid!
