905R with V2 76g a good combo?

The 76g V2 was one of the stock shaft options for the 905R. It is a little bit too harsh for some and many players complained of a boardy feel. The lighter 66g version feels totally different and a lot softer through impact. Performance-wise, it's still a great combo in the right hands and will reward the right player with long and penetrating drives. Beware of cutting down a driver too much though - the resultant loss of swingweight will make it even harsher still and ****-up the overall feel of the club without resorting to a wad of lead tape. I wouldn't recommend cutting it down more than 0.5".

They are great drivers and everyone should have one. I was gaming mine, just like the one you're looking at, with a 9.5* stiff in it for a long time and hit some very deep with it. It is in the back up bag now and my sons use it when they come home for a visit and want to play. Great driver combo.

I moved to the Adams as it was a whisper longer and less spin and easier to hit. There are a lot of PGA players with the 905R still in their bag.

I have a 8.5* 905R w/ V276x and absolutely love it. Nice penetrating ball flight and floats at the apex of the ball flight forever. Produces some absolute bombs than will run too. But others are right, not a shaft for the timid swinger. You have to go at the 76 pretty good for it to load and kick right. I also have the same shaft in an 9.5* SQ Tour that I also love.

Totally agree. It is a shaft you have to load to get the best out of it.

Do not attempt to cut it or you will mess it up

Amazing, my 905R with the V2 is back in the bag again, having tired the FT5 tour, G10, 907D2 and 909D2

Quite a few guys in the PGA this week using a 905R, Adam Scott is one of them.

If you are a smooth swinger try find one with a Diamana Blue

I had AWFUL results with it. I got too much spin and launched it too high. I had a 8.5* w/ V2 76gr. My current 9.5* 907D2/Code 6 combo hits lower then the 8.5* 905R I had. I played with a fellow WRX'r who has a 905R 9.5* and when he hit mine it was like going down 2-3* lower in loft.

I've had 2 905Rs - one w/ the 76g V2 and one w/ the Z-Com. I had a hard time loading the V2. I've never tried a V2 66g in a 905R, but I have one in a R7 Quad and it doesn't feel nearly has stout and loads nicely.
Wouldn't the bore thru make it harder to load since it will be a tad stiffer? or does that not factor in?
It does.
Not necessarily harder to load, but the tip will play stiffer than what you'd normally feel from other driver models. One of the main differences between half-bore through shafts and full-bore.

I got mine recently as a gift and like everyone has noted it is very difficult to load if you don't put a good swing to it. However, when your swing is on song the dispersion is very tight although with the club being so heavy and stiff compared to my smooth swing it is probably too stiff for me. It gets the job done though since I really like the weight of the slightly heavier 76g, even though the 66g shaft would probably suit me better.
awesome club though.

is this a high or low spin head? What about the launch?

I love my 3 wood and Ive been looking for a driver that has that same solid hot face feel as my 3wood.

I had that combo for awhile and I loved it. I am still trying to understand why I sold the club. That shaft and the head were almost made for one another. I missed it so much that I bought another one but I shafted it with the Prolaunch Red this time around I think I like it even more now than before.

The problem is that the V2 is so low torque that when installed with a bore-thru it increases stiffness by almost a flex. So if you're look for stiff flex maybe have the clubmaker tip a regular .5" - 1" before installing it.

Other than that I loved my 906f2 13* with V2 in it and would imagine the 905R would yield pretty good results.

Just a guess here, but based upon tons of comments on Golfwrx, I suspect that the 905R, Proforce V2 combo is one of the all-time favorites. The feel is different and some may refer to it as "boardy". If the feel is boardy, then count me as one who likes a "boardy" feel. To me, the feel is incredibly powerful. The bore through head is a very important factor in the overall feel. I have played the identical shaft in a Taylormade Tour Burner. The Tour Burner is the polar opposite of the 905R with respect to the bore- the Tour Burner is a very shallow bore design. As a side note, I absolutely hate my Tour Burner and will be selling it.

The distance, sound, look and feel of this combo, for me, is as good as anything I have tried to date, and I am a total driver ho (have 4 drivers right now, but the FT-9 is the one I play the most).

I will never sell mine. I still put it in play quite a bit.
