Bridgstone J33R/3Wood Paint Help!

Paint Chip???

I've had J33R and J33 3 Wood for a month now and I have a concern about their paint on the bottom. I recently discovered a small paint chip in the area inside yellow circle below of my J33R and J33 3 Wood. Has anyone experienced this? Is there anything I could/should do to prevent further paint chip? Help me guys.

I chipped my J33R 420cc driver, but it was MY fault, as I clanked it on an old shaft I use for alignment on the ground (at the driving range).

 

There's not much you can do to PREVENT this, but you can try touching it up with some paint. I used some paint from www.golfpaint.com, which has choices for different vendors. I had some leftover Titleist 980/983 series paint, that seemd to match the Bridgestone paint pretty well.

 

After drying, I use a mildly abrasive car wax (Meguiar's Car Cleaner/Wax) to touch it up and smooth it out. Worked great.

 

BTW - do you find that your J33R is a slice machine? I Have trouble controlling mine - I'm considering re-shafting it with a low kickpoint, soft tip shaft to see if it makes a difference. I play an Alidla NV now.

I don't think J33R's a slice machine. It's definately neutral in my opinion with slight tendency to fade. I used to have R7 quads and I had harder time with that driver fighting slice than J33R. It might be just me though.

 

BTW - I have NV 75S. This may be the reason I don't slice as much now.

I have the same spot missing paint on my J33 460, it is a wear mark.

 

I now have a small piece of lead tape that I have to replace based upon use. Otherwise, the mark will reappear.

I find the J33R to be a very fair driver. I've been using it for 2 months now and it is the best feeling driver i have used. I've been thinking about going to the 460cc or trying a different shaft besides the NV, but not sure yet.

 

For the J33 series Paint i noticed the paint is very weak compared to the other brands. my 3 wood looked horrible after a few months of use so i sold it. I noticed my driver has some light scuff/rub marks from my head cover and normal use. :stop:

Thanks guys. I do think B'stone's paint job is a little on vulnerable side. I too have some surface scratches from head covers and such. But the driver feels so good when hit properly and the sound is what I look for (sounds like a whip.. and no metallic sound).
