obviously those who chastise him or his play are not true DD fans. it goes to show you how shallow we can be as humans, when someone is playing well we are like their best fans, when they aren't, we call for their retirement. why do we always try to pull someone down? why focus on the negatives? he's still on the PGA tour (somewhere a lot of us wish we were), he's got a new family, he seems to be doing better mentally, and working his way back. he's gone through a lot in his life and instead of supporting him and wishing him well, some ask for his head!!! everyone is entitled to their opinion and it is true that DD isn't doing well in terms of his golf game, but my guess is that if he were to make his way back to the elite status, those who criticized him will now be praising his accomplishments.

like is say... DON'T HATE, APPRECIATE!!!! :stop:

I almost found out first hand how bad it's gotten for Duval when he almost hit me w/ an errant drive at the AT&T Pebble Beach last year. I remember vividly, I had just watched a few groups go through the stunning number 7...when I decided to follow Duval for a few holes. I positioned myself to the left of the 8th fairway, when everyone started running for cover, as the ball flew over our heads!!! from that point on, I made it a point to stand behind him when he was hitting, and for good reason as he proceeded to pull-yank the next few drives.

It's really sad, I feel for the guy! :stop:

HE GOT MUNSONED!!

Personally I did not like David Duval when he was #1, however I feel for the guy, anyone who has earned the right to play should play and he earned the right, by being #1 at one time. He may or may not make it back and am not sure where his priorities lie, but I have heard and read that his family is 1st and foremost, and as far as that goes, ata boy David.

It is interesting to me though that the events that he has made the cut for the most part have wider fairways, however playing golf on the courses as they are setup for the PGA tour is INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT. DD probably goes out and shoots mid 60's at his home course.

It just shows you how difficult and fickle this game really is.

hey lets not go jump all over the guys back cos he has an 84 at one of the toughest golf courses in the world...so along that line thomas bjorn is now a terrible player with no hope of ever playin the game or makin the ryder cup after his explosion 86 in the european open in the K Club last yr..or DL111 explosioon at this yrs players...i dont think so....stuff happens....david duval will get over it, weve already seen really encouraging signs this year.

This will DD's last appearance at Augusta for a very long time. Much of what made him number one in the world, singular focus to practice, working out, improving weaknesses is gone now. He has admitted as such. It has made him much happier to have the balance that he has now. However, taking away his narrow focus, which was his greatest strength will make it near impossible for him to approach the level he was once at. Balancing things has never been his greatest strength. It's always been all or nothing. Right now it's all about the family. Which is great for him personally and bad for the golf. It was great for the short run that he had.

He will hang it up when the exemptions run out, the Nike contract over, and the pension fully funded. Done, done, and done.

I'm pretty sure that at this point Nike will actually pay him if he promises not to play. "Hey, if we give you 20 bucks and a nice Titleist trucker hat to wear the rest of the day will you promise never to tell anyone you made a 10 on a par 5 with Nike clubs?"

The wheels are off...give it up man!

Maybe for the EXACT same reason we all do after we shoot a terrible round, we love the game and know we can do better!

I personally like DD very much, I like my SC DD putter ever BETTER.

Keep swinging david!

On the PGA tour... He should play better than he is... there are many people striving to get there that are probably better than he is at the moment. He needs to go back to the minors.. happens in MLB from time to time. I think if you a proffesional than you should act that way, his proformance is far from steller and his fan base just keeps declining(except die hard fans). I would love to see him get back in golf shape and win, but its sad to watch sometimes.

I wouldn't say DD is not acting like a professional. He is just as much a professional as Tiger Woods. He gets into tournaments based on his past performance; he earned it. He will not be able to get into tournaments in the future also based on his performance; he's earning it.

So sure DD is a professional, but one just about out of time.

It's really not a big deal, just ask him. It's funny how his dedicated fans think he will be back. Based on what? Name another top 10 player who became as much of a mental basket case as DD and came back to something near form? DD has lost it.

And it is sad to watch, but the fact is it is very tough to get your game together mentally at the PGA tour level. DD has all the shots, no doubt he has game, look at his back 9 at Augusta yesterday, but he does not have the mental makeup to keep it going with any consistency so now it's a race between exemption time and whether if one day it will all be clicking again.

He plays because he's previously earned the right to. Golf is a hard enough game without people you don't even know saying how much you suck and that you should give it up. Give the guy some credit for his accomplishments, as far as im' concerned he can play in whatever tournament he wants for however long he can. STAY UP DAVID!

Anybody remember what Scott Verplank went through in the early 90's? and he made it back to win tournaments and make the Ryder Cup if I'm not mistaken. A lot of people are simply placing the blame on Duval's mental game, but his problems started right around the time he began to suffer from vertigo. Not an easy thing for some people to recover from. You go try to hit a golf ball with it and everything else spinning in circles :stop:

DD has no competitive fire left in him. He'd rather spend time with his family and snowboard, which is fine. What is not fine is that he has been paid boatloads of cash over the last few years and has done ZERO. His fans get exited when he makes a cut, for Pete's sake.

Show up, go through the motions, miss the cut, go home. When asked about his poor play by the media say "I've got other priorities" or "It's just golf". It's almost like a shampoo bottle; "lather, rinse, repeat".

c'mon now guys. the guys starts off with a 6 on 1 & 10 on 2, shoots a 43 on the front & comes back & shoots 32 on the back, but he has no game which is sh%t. where's the thread on Charles Howell III's terrible game? DD is the 01 Open Champion, shot a 59, & done a number of other things, I don't think he really needs to show us anything, he's playing for THE LOVE OF THE GAME.

I have been a fan of David for many years and from what I have seen this year he has had some solid performances. I mean nothing like when he was number 1 or won the 01 Open Championship but he has played well so far this year. I believe he will make a come back within the next 2 years or so.

I agree with someone saying that Augusta is a very tough track, but you also said that Tiger didnt even break par, Tiger shot -4 (72 (E), 71 (-1), 71 (-1), 70 (-2).

Duval's 10:

His tee shot on the par-5, dogleft left hole hooked into the woods and into a lateral hazard on the left. After taking a penalty drop, his third shot hit a red stake and stayed in the woods. His fourth shot then hit a tree and went back into the hazard. After taking another penalty drop, his sixth shot was a pitch out into the fairway. His seventh shot went into the bunker guarding the right side of the green. His eighth shot finally made the green. Two putts later, a 10.

I could a done that!
