Mizuno MX-500

INTRODUCING THE NEW MIZUNO MX-500

The MX-500 460cc combines the forgiveness and ball flight of an oversized driver with the control normally expected in a smaller clubhead.

A lightweight graphite toe-insert, reduces the 460cc’s tendency for pushed tee shots (caused by toe lag), allowing the clubface to square naturally for solid impact.

High, longer ball flights are delivered through the use of an ultra-light graphite crown, which allows 30 grams of weight to be moved lower and deeper in the clubhead.

Conforming to both R&A / USGA driver

Whats Available

Lofts - 9.5, 10.5, 11.5

Graphite Shafts - Regular or Stiff

BIG miss on Mizuno's part......aweful driver all around

FEEL

PERFORMANCE

Just a sub-par driver!

Well, it's a good job we're all different isn't it? I like the MX500 and have found it to be as good as any of the other composite headed drivers out there. The head sounds fine, is pretty forgiving on off-centre hits and is as long as most I've tried. The club is good value too (in the UK) since it comes with a free shaft upgrade to the likes of Pro Launch Blue, NV/NVS. It's very nearly in the bag, but I am notoriously indecisive......!

This Driver is excellent. I tried the Nike S.Q., which for me was disappointing, and the Cleveland Hi-Bore which was long but not as accurate as the MX 500.Make sure you are fitted and don`t look at the flex of the shafts until you have decided. The stock shafts are high quality and made by Mizuno for the head.Mizuno will measure your tempo and match it with your swing speed. The result may dent your ego but improve your driving.

Played this club on a 30 day demo and was so impressed I hit it even when I shouldn't have.

This club allows you to swing as hard as you can and it will still go straight. Not recommended on my old 580 Banana City.

I have a R5 Dual N coming from a head replacment and I am trading it in for this bad boy ASAP.

Praise Japan for Mizuno.

I like Taylor Made don't get me wrongbut, this Miz head flat out punishes 40g spheres off the tee!! Used a Rombax Proto X.

Bought the MX 500 (10.5) last year with Graffaloy ProLaunch 65 Regular shaft. Used it for a while and always found the fairway but lacked the distance compared to my Bridgestone J33R 460 (9.5) with Diamana Shaft. Lately the Bridgestone while long has been errant (due to my swing) and wanted to go with a little higher launch club so pulled the Mizuno out of the closet and put the Bridgestone in the penalty box.

Anyway still the Mizuno did not feel right so took to my local club fitter and low and behold he tested my club and it turns out the ProLaunch marked as a regular shaft is in fact an X-Stiff shaft. Getting it reshafted with a NVS - 65 and should have it back tomorrow and will report on results. Learned a valuable lesson in getting every club checked even though I bought it brand new from Mizuno!

I like the driver. This one is shafted with a Rombax 6w06 and is very easy to hit. Seems very straight and distance seems good as well. My others are the Bridgestone 460R w/ 1027 proto and a TM TP 425 w/ Rombax 75.

ok here goes.... I on a whim went ebay cabin crazy this winter and bought a demo MX500 9.5 driver for 89 bucks and a pink stiff bimatrix proto for 49 greenbacks, stripped all the paint off the head, pulled the shaft repainted the head in mizuno bluerage metalic , FLOed and Spined the shaft, then slapped em all together with a pink golf pride multi grip with 2 extra wraps and didnt cut down the shaft... played 18 holes today 16 mph wind... holy #%$#^$@ is this thing straight... and LONG...I am not so sure im going to cut it down. I used it on 12 holes and never missed a fairway... Im just so dang impressed!!! the bimatrix is a softer feeling shaft but its so long, a smooth swing just hucks the sphere out there every time, then when it finaly touches down it runs like Richard Prior on fire. Gps says 268-302 into and with the wind(worst-best) 273-280 across it. very impressive for me and i just love the feel of this setup, I have not been able to kick my 440sz/nvprototype setup to the curb but this may just do it.... mmmmmmm im in love I cant wait to get on a monitor and see what the spin is because I could not believe how it just ignored the wind. TOO COOL!!! On a side note I used it with the exar50 shaft on the driving range this winter and hated it...AWSOME head...awful shft... shame they didnt come out in aftermarket shafts standard...less mizzy driver haters would exist I tell you! now comes the torture... do i cut it down?

^ Funny you mention the bad stock shaft and killer head combo because I just ran into the exact same problem. I just got back from a Demo day and when I hit the MX-500 with the stock shaft it was horrible. I hated it so when the rep went to hand me the driver I turned him down. Untill he showed me it had the prolaunch Red in it I told him Id give it a shot. WOW what a difference. LONG, STRAIGHT, and super boring. I couldnt believe it. Might have to pick one of these up and it might knock my G2 out of the bag. SUPER UNDER RATED DRIVER!!!

I'll throw another vote out there for good driver with the right shaft.

I actually hit this pretty well with the stock shaft, and great with the NV 65 (might have been NVS)

This club was pure CRAP with the Grafalloy Pro Launch Blue 65. It was labeled Stiff, but this thing felt like I was swinging a rope. Moon ball every time.

Get the right shaft and this baby can cook.

All of my testing was on a range, so I can't really comment on exact distance, but this club feels good and the shot shape looks good on the shafts I said I liked.

5 Stars - Two thumbs up - 5.0 out of 5.0

I demo'd just about every driver in the rack at Edwin Watts and the one I could hit best was the MX500. To add icing on the cake, I was able to find a lightly used MX500 with a stiff Prolaunch Blue shaft to suit my 110mph swing speed for $120 on another golf board. I'm hitting the sweet spot more often with this at 44.5". This is staying in my bag for the foreseeable future because I just pulled off the second 300+ yard drive of my career. This club is a keeper!

Have the 10.5 with a pro launch red.

It is a very nice driver but launches a little to high for me, but unless its a gail I can live with it.

Well worth the money as they are cheap now. Can be long with the right combo.

Had a some problem the other day a tee flicked up and hit the club on the follow through and cut the crown. Has anyone else had a problem with the crown of these drivers marking easy?

So how I need to look for a new driver.
