Nike Slingshot Tour

Recommended Posts

The Slingshot Tour irons were co-developed with assistance from several Nike Golf sponsored PGA Tour staff members. These irons are perfect for players that prefer a classic profile packed with modern technology. While these clubs still achieve Air CG via the lightweight/milled Carpenter Custom 455 face, the Slingback design is not visible at address. This shallower Slingback design, along with minimal offset, allow for more shot-shaping creativity. A431 stainless steel body that is 25% softer than the more commonly used 17-4 stainless steel enhances feel.

Technology:

Air CG,Air CG+:

The center of gravity (CG) of most conventional irons is within the club face, but the Slingshots CG is suspended in air beyond the thickness of the face. This feature launches the ball higher and makes it easier to square the club face with a higher rate of closure resulting in truer, straighter shots.,The center of gravity (CG) position of the Slingshot OSS irons is by far the lowest and deepest of any Nike iron. This feature launches the ball higher and makes it easier to square the clubface. This is made possible, in part, by a Cryo Steel clubface which is thinner, stronger and faster (ball speed) than conventional stainless steel. The weight savings (29 grams) attributed to this ultra thin face is repositioned further back in the clubhead’s OverSized Slingback design and lower in the wide Dual Glide sole to enhance perimeter weighting and increase the clubhead’s Moment of Inertia (resistance to twisting).

Enhanced Consistency:

The use of cold-rolled Custom 455 Stainless Steel material in the face is thinner, lighter and stronger than conventional stainless steel. The weight savings is repositioned further back in the club's 'Slingback' design, enhancing perimeter weighting, resistance to twisting and crisper ball striking. All Slingshot clubfaces are Computer Numerically Control (CNC) milled flat to within .002 and have engraved scoring lines to help ensure consistent and predictable ball flight and spin rates.

3-D Flow Weighting:

The positioning of the Slingback design in the long irons creates a higher ball flight for long, soft-landing shots. The Slingback design incrementally shifts higher, closer to the face, and towards the toe as the club numbers increase. This progressively reduces the launch angle while increasing the spin rate to prevent shots from ballooning while still holding greens.,The Slingshot OSS irons have weight strategically and uniquely distributed in each clubhead within the set. Long irons have weight concentrated low, rearward, and in the heel to facilitate squaring the clubhead and getting the ball airborne. The positioning of the Slingback in the long irons creates a high ball flight for long, softlanding shots. As the club numbers increase throughout the set, the Slingback design incrementally shifts higher and towards the toe to precisely calibrate trajectory and spin rate to prevent shots from ballooning while maintaining the ability to hold greens. 3-D flow weighting is featured in all three Slingshot models.

Progressive Offset:

Offset promotes solid contact and improved ball trajectory by positioning the golfer's hands ahead of the ball. As the emphasis moves from distance to control and accuracy the offset is gradually reduced to allow more shot-making creativity.

Wide Sole:

The wide constant sole width of the Slingshot irons increases effective bounce to help prevent thick and thin mishits.

Thinking of getting these...

What handicap are they best suited for?

I hit the original Slingshots when they first came out and loved them. That was a few years ago and my swing is much improved. I would imagine that since they are labeled "Slingshot Tour," they must be somewhat harder to hit. I read a few reviews on other sites that say these have less offset than the originals, but the only other difference is appearance.

Does anyone out there play these? I'm in between game improvement and player's clubs? Would these be for me or are these more for under 10 handicappers? Any insight would be great!

I also used the slingshots when they first came out. I have since upgraded to the Nike Blades and hit them great as well. I still score in the mid 80's to 90's but that is mostly due to the fact that I am a horrible putter and my game from around the green is nearly as bad. So I guess I am saying that if your ball striking is consistent and you rarely or never shank a shot then go for it. You can also rent them from online demo companies, I have used www.golfclubdemo.com and have been pleased. They charge about $30 for a week long demo and if you want to buy them apply the rental fee to the purchase.

I hit the ball very very low with my irons. I have a clone club called King Snake with graphite shafts. They are a good club ,but they are very inconsistent. I tried the slingshot tours at the local nevada bob's and i hit them 15 to 20 yards farther ,and i hit them straighter and more consistantly. But I don't know if I should jump on them now or wait and see if i can get another iron. I also wanted to be able to try the pro combos. Have any suggestions for a shaft clubhead combo that would help me get the ball up. Thanks

I have a set of these in the bag. They feel great. These clubs still have some forgivness but with the ability to work the ball at will with ease. The long irons are easy to hit and quite long. They have a very solid feel, and nice penetrating ball flight. They will be in my bag for quite awhile i think.
