I'm sure you will get many different opinions to this question but the R5 TP gets my vote. You can also pay much less than the 600 dollar new price tag if you look around and especially if you are willing to buy a slightly used one. I paid less than 300 for mine which included the magnetic headcover and a full compliment of adjustable weights and torque wrench. It was slightly used and looked almost brand new. I haven't tried the new 460 yet but the reports I read are very favorable.

Yea this is a tough one.

I've hit the r5tp and owned the r7tp and now have the r7425tp. All the heads seem to have the same bang off the club face but the r5tp definately had a slightly higher launch. It comes down to the appearance of how the club sets-up to the ball IMO(cosmetics). Everyone has a different taste.

The rombax shaft is amazing i've owned the authentic versions of fujikura 757 speeder and the mitsubishi diamana 83 and a taylor made fujikura six and none could compare in all areas of as the rombax does. Though the 757 is a close 2nd.

These days all club heads seem consitant its really just the shaft that matches your game. I give the old r7 tp the best rating because of the variery shafts offered over the life span of the driver existance.

Hey no problem I'll try to be as much as a help as possible.

The r5 as stated earlier has a higher launch. I noticeed a distinct difference downwind of carry on pure and miss hits. This may be accredit to its larger face and higher COR than its brother r7. When cutting corners of dog legs i felt at ease with its higher launch to carry tree limbs if neccasary.

The face is neutral and large at 450cc (looks more like 460) and gives confidence for a straight long drive.

The negatives were working the ball I didn't feel like I had as much control when moving the ball either way compaired to the r7. The ball flight into the wind didn't balloon but had a slightly less penetrating trajectory than the r7.

If your serious about this club ask yourself what is the best shaft option out of the 3.

Fujikura Six, Mistubishia Diamana or Speeder 757

Take the SIx if your looking for yardage and a higher launch.

Take the Diamana if you have an agressive swing and tend to launch the ball already high

Take the 757 if your looking for a stable shaft. This shaft is heavier than the authentic model.

My reccomendation would be if your serious about the r5 tp and only the r5 tp would be to get the r5 neutral version. It is the exact same club face and design the only downside is the weights can't be switched but trust me you don't switch them much to begin with (if at all) and the r5 tp or regular only has 2 to begin with it doesn't have the same affect as 4. The pluses of the regular r5 neutral is the huge savings in cost and a largey variety of shafts that will better suit 98 percent of peoples games and if you don't like them get another custom shaft it won't cost you anymore. Oh and for cosmetics by a tp headcover via ebay if you like the look and magnetic force!!!!

Hope that helped

As previously stated the R5 TP is the exact same head as the R5 N minus the moveable weights and diamana which you could customize if you wanted to. If you want to go that route the R5 N is a solid recommendation.

Although not on your list I second the tour issue 540XD TP and 580XD TP. These heads are an outstanding value for the price and feel/sound better than all present TM drivers with the screws.

Thanks for the feedback. I currently play the R5 Draw that I bought last season. Since then I've really put in a lot of work on my swing and now when I go after shots it sometimes hooks.

That's what I really liked about the 425TP it was easy to fade, hit straight, and play a slight draw. It was harder to really move right to left but doable. The biggest thing was that I could really pound one and if I over did it it wouldn't hook way left like the R5 Draw.

so the r5 and r5tp have the same feel? some people told me that the r5tp has a more solid feel to it. i own both the r5 N and r7 quad, and i prefer the feel of the r7. i'm kinda leaning towards the 425tp just because it has more variations with the weights. can you guys tell me if the face on the 10.5* 425tp is open or square?

The only way the r5 and r5 tp could possibly have a different feel is the shaft. The club is exactly the same head as the N minus the movable weights and a tp logo according to the tm website. I've hit both and they felt the same.

The r7 425 has an open face it varies but usually .5 degrees open i believe is standard

Hi all,

I have swing with the TM driver since the R510 TP to the current R7 425 TP. I think, the best one still the 510 TP. Eventough I have sell it last year, I still feel that it is the sweetest driver I ever swing. The next one I think is the original R7 TP. Currently I have my R7 425 TP but I haven't got it right yet. The weighting system is a bit differ with the R7.

Getting the weights right is the key. I have mine set from toe to heel: 4, 10, 2, 12. Perfect set- up...

I'd say r510 TP first, r5 TP second. Didn't like the 580xd TP too much, and the r7 TP was good but too many options with adjustment just messed with my head.

Hi, I have played the Tour 580XD, the Tour 510TP, Tour 540TP, 425 R7 and retail 580XD. I found the 580"s offer much higher trajectory than loft indicated but very straight just not as much roll as others. I also noticed BIG difference in sound and feel, between Tour 580 and retail version -WOW! Liked 425 R7 with Rombax shaft, but when I put Rombax in a Tour 510TP that sucker moved out and felt so pure and solid!! Just picked up Tour 540TP with x stiff NV shaft, normally I'm using S shafts, and I have been terribly impressed! Going away for a week golfing with the 510 and the 540 and will decide my choice. Right now the Tour 510TP is the odds on favorite, just love the feel, the deep face, etc. But will hold onto that Tour 580XD for the days that the wind is always at your Back!!! I have become a very firm believer in the solid feel, sound and explosion of the Tour versions versus the retail. If you're patient you can pick these up for very good prices on For Sale Forum here or EBay. Heads up - On EBay you have to be careful buying 510 Tour versions, which were the protos for the 510TP - "Titanium" on the toe, no serial #'s on the hosel and the .5 underlined. I have purchased two on EBay where someone sanded out the serial #'s and scored an underline under loft, and claimed them to be Tour Van Issue. Good Hunting!
