Sonartec vs Titty 904f

which fariway wood?
I am definitely going to purchase a 3 wood (14* or 15*) in a few weeks to replace my 16.5* 975f. I am planning on putting a vista pro 80 shaft in whichever clubhead it may be.

I know I can trust Titleist for making a solid club that a lot of people have, but I have heard wonderful things about Sonartec fariway woods.

Which should I go for?

right now I am thinking ss-02 if I end up going with the Sonartec

Sonartec felt more solid to me, especially on off center hits. However, feel is so subjective, ymmv.

I think the most important thing is that Sonartec also has more options than Titleist (cough, 14* heads), different face depths and spin rates. Whatever you need they've got you covered.

If you're a high swing speed / spin player I think the 03 or 3.5 may be a better bet and are still VERY playable off the deck despite their "deep face design." Don't let that scare you off.

As mentioned above, demo both and see which one fits your game and eye. Can't really go wrong with either.

I play a SS 3 in a 14*. It's been with me for 2 years. It feels great. It is listed as a "deep face" but it's really not that deep IMO. I think there is something to the driving cavity in terms of feel and playability, but Titleist stuff is ALL top notch with good feel. Try both brands and see what suits you. Good luck

I have owned most of the Sonartec models (multiples of a few :stop:) and think the SS-3.5 is the pinnacle of all their fairway woods.

I had a revolving door of three-woods before getting it and now I know there is nothing better. Off the tee or off the deck it does it all very well.

I own 4 3-wood currently - T60, R7 Ti Tp, 904F and Np-99 - and I love them all

It's a hard choice to make - both the 904F and a Sonartec would please you, no doubt :)

My 904F reminds me a bit of my Np-99 because they both are kind in between a mid faced and a deep faced 3-wood. I would have hard choice choosing one or the other - both are great.

I've also owned the SS 2.5 (mid faced) and the SS 3.5 (deep faced) but sold them and got myself one of the classic legendary Np-99 and haven't regret it for a second :cheesy:

But the Titleist 904F is also a marvelous 3 wood.

Tough choice - the good thing: You can't go wrong with either with the right shaft in them :cheesy:

I would recommend the Sonartec SS-07...great mid-shallow head, which allows it to be used effectively off the tee and the deck, plus the hosel can be bent to tweak loft and lie. Despite Sonartec's reputation of being a player's club, when paired with the right shaft it is easy to get the ball in the air. I play to about a 15 and have no issues getting the ball airborne. I played with the 904 just prior to getting the SS-07 and while I enjoyed the 904, the SS just plain felt better and gave me a slightly higher ballflight. Thus far, I haven't looked back.

Just my opinion.

I play the 904F and haven't found a better Fairway wood, I wish you asked this question in about a month, because we are having both Titleist and Sonartec come to our club on the same day for a DeMo DaY. You can pick up both NP-99's and 904F's for a fairly reasonable price nowadays, and IMO you can't lose with either one. I like the 904F's because of the feel, and the Medium Depth face allows for tee shots that wont baloon on you, and the ablility to hit fairway shots with ease. It's all up to you, take them both out, and see what you like better!
