Lie angle or Length?

Nike forged blades

i just got my new nike forged blades, with x 100's and a tour velevt cord grip. with todays standard length, and according to pings fitting cart i was fitted into 1 degree upright standard length. Now i hot my nike irons with lie angle tape placed on the sole, and the marks on really consistantly on the toe, there a 1/4-1/2 inch shorter than my 990's, should i change to lie angle more upright, or add 1/4 inch to every club.

Get to a clubfitter and fit length and lie angle independently.

 

They are related though. At a shorter length, your irons will play flatter and will need to bent more upright.

 

Did you have trouble hitting your old irons? Have you noticed any distance loss with your new irons?

 

A lot of people (myself included) play their irons shorter, it helps with consitent contact, and eliminating the big miss. I've actually gained distance with my irons shorter since I hit hte ball in teh center and can compress it more since it's easy to be "on top" of a shorter iron.

 

If you like them at the shorter length, just keep bending them upright until you get your mark in the middle of the sole.

 

If you want to lengthen them, first get the extensions or new shafts in and then get some impact tape on the sole and see wher eit needs to go. For every 1/2 inch you add, your clubs will play 1* more upright than they are now.

Titleist and Nike might have a different idea of what is std lie and some loft/lie machines drift out of calibration. They probably also didn't not compensate for the length when bending for lie. Every 1/2" shorter creates a club that is just short of 1* flatter.

 

The sole marks are a good indicator but are not gospel. If you find you are leaving the ball right with your short irons 3 or 4 yards, you might need a couple degrees upright. Usually 1/4" on the sole mark equates to 1* in lie adjustment.

 

Do some impact work on the face just to check you are hitting center before you proceed with the lie work.

i dont feel like their too short....so i might just bump them up 2 degrees. i agree that u will gain consistancy with thew shorter club and potentially hit it farther becasue your making better contact and compressing the ball more.
