5.5 or 6.5???

I'm going to order a set of srixon i-506 irons with project x shafts... the only problem is i don't know which flex to get.. i currently use s300 and have used them for a long time but it's time for a change.. my driver ss is 105-110 and my 5 iron ss is 90... i picked the 6.5's.. but the order will not be processed until monday so i have until then to change my mind.. any advice would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Unless your S300 were tipped...6.5 may feel pretty stiff to you...

What will the trade off be in feel vs performance...i've only used s300 the whole time because i didn't know any different and that's what i was used too.. over the last few years that i've actually started to learn a little more about this stuff the numbers suggest that i should have been using x-100... i worked at a golf dome last year and there were old titleist 962 fitting irons.. one was standard with s300 and one was standard x-100...so i went and hit them to see the difference.. the s300 "felt" better .. and it had a slight draw.. the x-100 felt really stiff.. but shots went dead straight.. of course i had no idea of the distance difference because of the dome.. but if the dispertion is going to be better with x-100/6.5 and the distance loss isn't going to be significant i could learn to like the feel..

We had a set of MP60 with Project X 6.5 in them and they felt like a fence post. I have never seen a stiffer shaft than those and i have hit my pros at home with just reg Rifle 7.0 in them. It could just be me but the project X seems to feel a bit stiffer.

You said either the 5.5 or 6.5, why not 6.0. Does Srixon not have them?

Keep in mind that Ernie Els is currently using 6.8 flighted in his 695mb. His swing speed is way over 110. I'd go with the 6.0 if you can get them.

I have the 5.5s in the I-506s and the 6.5s will not have the head feel you need to make shots. You will get baited into making power lunge swings. The shafts won't get wobbly, but unless your other clubs are pretty stout, you better hope your iron swing doesn't bleed over into your driver swing. I don't think Srixon offers the 6.0 PX as a no upcharge premium shaft, but even at that flex, it would be a beast.

I e-mailed Royal Precision and asked which Project-X shaft would play around the stifness of the S-200 or S-300. The reply I received was that Project-X 5.0 would play around a S-200. I decided to softstep the 5.5 in a custom order. I havn't hit them yet. I did hit someones Project-X 6.5 into a simulator and they were very stiff.

Thanks for the reply's.. i think i'm going to make the change to 5.5 since the rest of the set is basically going to be stock stiff (driver, fairway wood, hybrid).. might feel a little more consistent throught the set.. and i'll know i'll get better results making smooth swings instead of jumping out of my shoes

great idea, 5.5 will do great, the PX is heavier than the standard rifle, which could make it FEEL stiffer. tell us what you think when you get them
