Putting Woes

Right Eye Dominant, left eye is screwing it all up.
I struggle week to week with my putting and part of the problem is that I can't stick to one putter or one technique but I think it's my eyes that are really throwing things off.

I've tried the claw, left hand low, the saw, split grip etc etc.....

The biggest problem I have is that I'm right eye dominant so when I stand over my putt my left (weaker) eye throws off my line since it's the eye on the target side.

Any tips....should I try to switch to left handed putting or go to a long putter so I can see the line better?

I've even thought of trying the "hammY" putter because of the open stance.

HELP! :stop:

I've got your fix jportz.

Watch Fred Couples putt tomorrow. Whenever he looks at the target his eyes are always level. Even when he's over the putt. Most people simply **** their head to one side so both eyes are looking down the target line. Not Freddie, he may have to get out of his posture, but you can be sure he's looking at the line with his right eye.

Give it a shot, I think it may help you. Once you've picked out your line, just focus on the ball (and the spot behind it) to keep your head from moving just like Tiger, hold that finish with your head down for a couple of seconds and listen for the ball to drop in the hole! :stop:

Hope that helps.

Thanks TM-Fan, I'll try it in the morning....

I get set up over the ball but then have to almost stand up and turn my head so my eyes are level and looking down the line. Then when I get back over the ball in my posture I just have to trust it....because my left eye makes me want to adjust my line...it's like my peripheral vision is all wacky with my left eye.

That's why I was considering a long putter, so I could stand up straighter and get a better look at the line with my right eye.....but then again, I don't want a bandaid, I want a solid putting technique.

One more quick question, do you use a line on your ball to help get the ball started?

If you don't you should definately try it, because from behind the ball you can aim it, and then use the sight lines on your putter to get squared up and trust that you've picked the right line.

No matter what that "evil" eye is telling you. :stop:

^^^^ a good tip, I am also right eye dominant, been that way for 47 years that I can remember. The alignment line on the ball certainly helps. When reading putts I close my left eye, pick the line, align the ball on the desired line and let her go, works for me.

Great tip, I am another one who is right eye dominant and had never thought about using the line as a sight aid / reference. It will also remind me top pick the ball up each green and give it a clean.... Thanks for that.... :D

I'd love to get my hands on one of those hammY putters and give it a try. You know, I've heard a lot of people say the split grip and open stance putting style is the best way to putt.....yet I don't see any Pro's putting that way (except Natalie Gulbis).

I've taken an old putter in my garage and tweaked the shaft a bit so I can use it this way and feel like I'm putting on line a lot more often.

The split grip and open stance have helped me to putt on line more consistently but it also has screwed up my touch and speed....but I guess that will come back with practice.

Where can I find info on Jackie Burke's putting?
