need hybrid help!

i was just wondering what lofts replace what irons, could anyone please give me that information?

Well, that depends on a number of factors.......loft/shaft type and length/HOW you use them, etc. But, as a rule.....

 

14 - 15 degrees is equal to a 1 or 2 iron

18 - 20 degrees is equal to a 3 iron

22 - 24 degrees is equal to a 4 iron

 

Hybrids are MUCH more versatile than long irons......play em' like a fwy. wood and they go quite a bit further than the iron they replace......play em' like a mid-iron and they are more like the iron they replace......you can chip with them......hit them quite a bit further off of a tee than the iron they replace......and it's MUCH, MUCH easier to hit a high draw with them than the iron they replace.....IMOP they are like "stealing" when compared to a long iron......:D

I'm glad he asked that question....I have a 20* Heavenwood that I bought to replace my 3 iron but I hit my 3 iron 205 and hit this hybrid more like 220. So I kept it in the bag and took out a wedge. It actually fills the gap between my 3 iron and 4 wood which is nice, especially on longer courses.

 

You mentioned playing it like a mid-iron...do you mean a little more in the middle of the stance and a more descending blow???

 

I can hit the high hook whenever I need it and I do use it around the greens sometimes. I'm actually thinking about getting another one, like 23* to actually replace my 3 iron...why not, they're so easy to hit and the biggest thing is that they get way up in the air and land soft on the green. A necessity when the pin is in the front!

I use a TaylorMade Rescue Mid 19° and it replaced a 2 iron/5W.

Yep.....exactly.....you'll put more backspin on the ball and find it easy to cut them......helps to hit those "tweener" shots between your normal "hybrid" distance and the iron it replaced......

 

For instance, I hit a 3 iron 210 MAX in the air........maybe 215 - 220 in the summer in 100 degree weather and LOW humidity.......but with an 18 degree hybrid I can easily hit it 220 year round and 230 in the summer......thats a HUGE gap IMOP.......but I can take it and put it back a lil' bit.....aim slightly left......open the face a SLIGHTLY.....and trap it a bit......hit a lil' bitty "slider" and take 10 - 15 yards off of it without altering my swing other than the set-up.......

 

Just a very versatile "style" of club.......I'd NEVER go back to long irons now......and 10 years ago I'd have called you crazy if you'd told me I wouldn't have a 1 iron in my bag.......now the longest is a 4 iron.....:stop:

Thanks for the tip...can't wait to try out the new shot. I usually just choke down an inch and make the same swing and that'll take a bit off it for me but the little slider cut would be a nice tool to have at my disposal.

i've got to agree with you on that. i got a 19* taylormade rescue dual tp 19* to replace my 5 wood. its a little shorter, but much easier to hit, more versatile for different shots, and easy from the rough. i can't imagine using this to replace my 21* 3 iron, especially with the 1" difference in shaft length. i have considered putting a 1/2" longer shaft in my hybrid just to give it a tad more distance.
