"What's a 585H?"

I can't believe this.

Yesterday at my demo day, I was glad once I got to the Titleist stand. I reached into the bag and took some swings with the 905R, and I was quite pleased. However, what happened next shocked me.

I walked up the the rep and asked him "Do you have any information on the 585H?" He replied "585H? I don't think that's in our catalogue. Are you sure it's a 585H, not a 503H?" I had to explain to HIM, the Titleist rep, that the 585H is Titleist's prototype hybrid on tour right now. :D :stop:

I was so amazed and I wanted to hear what you guys thought.

At our product knowledge I asked him about those clubs, and he told me to shhh, and then winked at me....

 

maybe this is stuff that they are not supposed to talk about. Just playing stupid. Don't know why, but it seems like they want to keep them hush hush until they decide if they are going to release them to the public or not.

Why would a rep. want to talk about a proto club. He's there to sell clubs you can get your hands on.

Job of the rep that goes to green grass and off-course pro shops is to sell you on clubs currently in production, not those that might not make it to market or still in prototype/tour test phase.

Couple of things.......could have been just a demo day tech rep. If that was the case, he probably has no knowledge of prototype clubs, nor should he. He is employed to show and inform golfers about the clubs he has under his tent.

 

If he was a sales rep, chances are he knew about the 585H. Many company's reps are instructed not to talk about prototype clubs that are not available for sale yet.

this is a very interesting topic....sounds like two thing might have happend...he knew and played dumd or he didnt know. my guess is he didnt know since i have see on a couple of ocastions that the rep didnt know

ahhhh yes. I experienced this last year regarding the 735s. I was bugging every Titleist rep within 100 miles about the 735 release date months before they came out and got no response until right before they came out.

First of all, that is exactly what I would have told you whether I knew or not. The 585, 585.H, and 503I, are Tour Issue clubs. Are you on the Tour?? Then why do you need to know?? Most SALES Reps are informed of the information that is relevant to their job. They are not TOUR Reps & they don't work in the Tour Van. Where do you get your information from? That's right an internet chat room, and where do these purveyors of information get their info?? Usually from TOUR Reps or guys in the Tour Van. So if you don't have a great deal of contact with these folks inside the company how would they know that much about it? If you work for a large company I'm sure you don't know EVERYTHING that is going on. Maybe all the OEM SALES Reps should be required to spend what little free time they have on internet chat boards so that they know the latest and greatest in new TOUR equipment coming down the line, and they can all be as smart as our friend here. Sigmamason summed it up best they are responsible to sell what they have, not what is coming down the pipe.

even mentioning the word tour sends many reps into an hogans heroes impersonation "i know nossing" (its funnier if you imagine a german accent).

 

i was recetnly at a demo day with my lil bro and he wanted to see the new x-tour fairway (reatil version) and the rep was adament that the club doesnt exist and its tour only. then asked my lil bro where he heard of the club and my bro responded "at the golf galaxy down the street" and the rep convinced us we were wrong. we later ended up finding one in a buried in a bag with x fairways and the rep came back and apoligized becuase he misunderstood and thought we wanted a tour issued fairway.

Honestly, most of you don't need to hit or touch the tour stuff anyways..

 

that said, I'm sure the rep was lying. Its not his job to answers questions about tour equipment to every 13 year old kid who read about it on the internet. Playing dumb is the easiest way to avoid a second question.

Everyone says that they don't care what the big names play, and they want clubs to fit THEIR swing.. however when a proto is on tour everyone HAS to have it... I just think its silly... I also find it hard to believe that EVERYONE who posts here is a 2 hcp with 115 swing speed and needs only XXXXX flex and tour only stuff....

Ahh.... That is where the saying, "to each his own" comes in handy.

 

I post here quite a bit and am admittedly an 18 HI. Last time I measured my SS it was around 95. Probably even less now.

On this site??? I think you got the sites mixed up. Here we have conversations on Ping, Cobra, KZG and Orlimar too. I really don't see the hype over getting tour clubs here at Golfwrx. If anything the question raised here more often is when are the tour clubs coming to the retail market. That along with the importance of getting properly fit with whatever you play.

I'm sorry...I shouldn't have said everyone.. I know a bunch of the people here (especially the core group) are all about playing what works for you, and thats not always tour stuff (sometimes I guess it is.) It just seems like sometimes everyone is so anti "i play nike because of tiger" yet at the same time "when does that new XXX tiger is using come out?"
