something tiger said about his putter
While reading an ESPN article I came across this intriguing quote from tiger:

"I feel like breaking this putter in eight pieces," Woods said a few moments after his caddie, Steve Williams, had tossed the Scotty Cameron model to Woods' agent, Mark Steinberg, telling him to "break the [expletive] thing."

Not the ringing endorsemnet for scotty goods that we usually hear. Do you think that this is just a comment of frustration or is it an early sign to a putter change? Your thoughts

i've heard stories that over the years hes tested a number of other putters, some of which he putted better with, but always use his he has because it has won so many tournaments with him. change isn't bad.

however, i didn't think it was the putter that failed him. i think it was his putting coach, earl woods, not being there.

They're talking about a new putter on his own site as well:

http://www.tigerwoods.com/news/fullstory.s...iCategoryID=505

Of course, it will probably be another Scotty Cameron :stop:

Interesting. His frustration must have been high after yesterdays round, that particular has served him well for so many years, maybe a change would not hurt.

All frustration. At the interview after his final round, he mentioned that he didnt call his Dad between rounds. He said he would talk to him, and was sure that his dad was going to tell him what he was doing wrong with his putting. I think he needs some Tiger time with his dad. They are close knit, and I feel very sorry for him when his time comes.

There is more than a poor putting stroke weighing him down.

If you watched the telecast of the Masters, after Woods holed the birdie on 18th, he brushed it off and then tossed his putter to Stevie who then proceeded to mockingly make a motion of "breaking" the putter over his knee.

It was clear as day on TV......

i saw that as well and thought how frustrated must he be??

i doubt he'll be rocking a futura long at the next event but i bet he'll be spending an awful lot of time on the putting green with his trusty ole SC. he's stated numerous times that this putter got him where he is and has made so many clutch putts wiht it that he can't possibly think of changing it.

yea i was thinking all this equipment that has gotten him THIS FAR, has changed a lot over the years. probably the greatest feat was his 3 AMS. but i think he played ping eye2s in atleast 1of them. the dynamic gold steel shafts that he won how many majors and regular tour events with. and yea i guess butch was a constant also. but i think when tiger feels hes ready he will. but it has taken a major name to change his mind tom stites fo rthe irons and the driver, rock ishii for the ball and when nike has a major name designing their putters he will change.

I was thinking, and yes, I know, shouldn't do that too much, but his body has changed and he has bulked up over the last 7 years - maybe he does need a new putter or needs to adjust the weight of the current stick.

Maybe Tiger is making an appointment with Scotty for video and a visit to the SuperSam Machine.

Sorry, Forgot which one was the sarcastic smiley.

I would think though Phil Knight was paying every witchdoctor out there to put a hex on the NP2.

No matter what anyone says about all the "confidence" wins with the SC NP2, everyone said he would never switch out of steel in the driver, that he would never ditch the silver 3wood, heck he even carries a 5 wood now. Noone can ever say that he will never change. That thing must be so beat up by now with all the angry tosses back to the bag. It's bound to break soon enough.

golfsll,

I'm not sure about the US Am's, but he definitely used Eye 2's for AT LEAST one of his US Junior titles. Good memory. :)

FYI - I dont think Tiger ever played Pings. He had Titleists, Cobras, and now Nikes.

He definitely played Eye 2's during part of his amatuer years, I've seen pictures. He also used a Ping Anser 2

putter. Which is why he uses a Ping grip on his Scotty.

I remember reading an article in one of the British golf magazines( Golf Word ,I think) after O'Meara won The Open Championship in 98 about the equipment he used. He used a Ping Anser 2 and I remember him saying that Tiger used his back up Anser 2 that week.

Also, I saw an old Golf Digest swing sequence layout, with Tiger probably around age 16, using a Callaway

Big Bertha Warbird driver.

You're right, the week of the 98 Open he used O'Meara's back-up after using a SC Teryllium thing to win the Masters the previous year (sorry SC purists, I don't know all the models!! - it had a black head and white dots in the cavity, you know the one I mean). Shortly after that SC made him the putter he has used up 'til now.

Do you people realize that Tiger HAS NOT used the same putter for this almost 10 years? SC makes Tiger between 6 and 8 putters EVERY YEAR. He switches all the time; the putters just look very similar. Just pay attention to the stampings; every few months he has one with different stamps. I'm partial to the one that said TIGER WOODS in vertical letters on the heel of the face next to the dot. Thank goodness TW isn't a freak with the extravagant stamps like some of those disgustingly ugly custom putters that are floating around. I hate it when SC ruins a putter by putting crap all over it.

Why don't you post some pics to back up your claims...if you can.

Exactly. I thiink dk does not know the whole story. Mr Cameron has stated in many interviews that he makes Mr Woods many putters and in differnt styles, but he never changes from the one we're so familiar with in his bag. Mr Cameron has also stated that he has attempted to make exact copies of the putter Mr Woods uses but he can still tell the difference in feel between one and another. A japanese magazine recently had close up photos of his gamer putter from all angles and with all the dings and nicks on it, there's no way that putter was new for the season.
