Tiger to Nike putter?

Is it finally the right time to at least experiment? After seeing Stevie do the fake break the putter over his knee movement after the final round and reading that Tiger said that he would like to break the putter into about eight pieces could Tiger give a milled Nike Answer/Newport a go? IMO now would be as good a time as any. It will eventually happen.

yeah, he needs to switch putters. Afterall its only the putter he has used to become what many consider one of the two or three best putters ever. Exactly what the best player in the world would do, change putters because of one bad day. On day one and two he made a number of putts center cut that saved par. I know there has been talk of him using a Nike putter eventually but I think it will be a long time before he does that....i may be wrong but I would guess Tiger knows that club is probably the most important in his bag and a knee jerk reaction tossing it out of the bag would not be the brightest of ideas.

These are pretty much the kinds of opinions that were out there prior to Tiger ditching his wedges, driver, ball and 3 wood b4 going Nike. It's gonna happen with the putter too guys. It's an obvious progression based on the movement away from ALL his other non-Nike equip. I'm NOT saying he should switch because of one bad day or bcs. it will fix his putting. Just saying it's going to happen eventually, why not now?

What tech. advantage did he gain going from the Vokeys to the Nike wedges? I would say his wedges (Vokey) were feel/money clubs and they're now gone in favor of the Nikes.

 

The putter is def. the "money" club and that is no doubt why the Cameron has survived the longest. It is only a matter of time till the swoosh finds its way on his putter. Once again history with ALL the other non-Nike equip. supports this.

I agree that it will be the Cammy next time we see him. But I bet the wheels are turning on the possibility of doing some serious testing with some proto. milled Nike versions of his Cammy.

Yep, they can......seen em' myself.......and I have a hard time calling them "IBC's" when Scotty "Xerox" was "inspired" by Mills/Solheim.....:stop: :D Tiger Woods can putt with a walking cane if need be......just had a bad day with poor feel for "speed".......or couldn't "see" the correct line......IMOP anyway....:shout:

Tiger didn't putt that well at Bay Hill or the Players Championship either.

 

Putting is all about the feel and balance of the putter combine with good biomechancs in terms of posture, alignment, grip and movement of the arms and shoulders. Different putters naturally feel different. Maybe Tiger needs to at least consider a change. I know there is a decided difference when I put with a Scotty Cameron Red X as oppsed to my normal Top-Flight MHT-1.

Tiger won't switch putters, why would he now? He is one of the greatest, besides me anyway, putters that there is in pro golf. I just can't see him switching at all......I know that he usually makes the clutch putts....heck, he still uses a PING grip!

 

Tiger, if you are reading this, I will gladly take a putter (or two) off your hands, I'll even pay the shipping!

Yeah, that custom Nike putter for Justin Leonard lasted a long time in the bag. NOT!!! At Tuesday's practice round of the Masters he was using an Odyssey XG putter, the one that looks like it has wings. Chad Campbell has been playing a Guerin Rife off and on. I'm pretty sure Trevor Immelman plays a Cameron.

 

The only Nike staff player I've seen playing a Nike putter is Michelle Wie. That's 100% accurate.

 

Let's face it, Nike putters are junk at this point. Tom Stites has done a remarkable job creating woods, irons and wedges. Rock Ishii has created tour caliber golf balls. But the putter department is still the red-headed stepchild.

TW will experiment whenever he wants and he will also switch when he wants. Nothing could be more of a risky switch than the golf ball; didn't hurt TW when he switched the ball. It took a long time, but he did it. Whether or not he switches putters and when is only known by him.

 

TW will use whatever he feels is the best putter to get him a win. Speculating that he can only win with a SC is pure arrogance by a bunch of stupid collectors.

aren't a lot of the camerons just milled versions of the old ping putters? i own a scotty, and love it. i have a ping anser 3 that i would love even more if i could get a little more weight in the head. i'm not trying to bash scotty, but its not a total rip if nike has an anser style head.

 

i agree too that nike needs to get a more solid putter line out before we will see tiger make the switch. then again, maybe the nike is what he is looking for. its a putter. there is no one perfrect putter, but the perfect putter for an individual. no matter what he chooses, i'm sure it will sell like hot cakes.

 

i don't agree with the comments it was just a bad day. he didn't putt well all four days at the masters, not did he putt well at the players or bay hill. his putting wasn't even that impressive at doral. i've been disappointed with his putting all year.

There is something magical about Cameron putters...they just have awesome feel and consistent manufacturing. Do you think its an accident they are the single most dominant putter brand on tour by a huge margin? Now I'm not a Scotty Cameron Kool-Aid drinker--there are other great putter brands out there. Unfortunately Nike isn't one of them. Tiger will stick with SC.

Right on. To sit there and think that Tiger's Cameron is some sort of magic wand that he can't go on without and provides him with all his success is laughable. I can see the headlines now: Tiger switches to a Nike putter and quickly fades into obscurity :) As DM stated, the ball was prob. the riskiest switch. If he could do the ball, no doubt he could do the putter.

no it's not an accident that SC is poop'ular it's great marketing, lot's of pay to the pros, and good putters. The retail SC are only OK putters IMO when compared to the mostly junk that is sold at retail. Also Having a high price point makes things seem better. Imagine if the Circa 62s were $125 rather $300. They feel like $125 worth of putter but because it's SC we give them more than they deserve. And being the dominant brand on tour means nothing except who gets paid to play. I'd love to see a TW Nike tour putter.... someday

Right now he's probably working on a new prototype for Tiger to try. On the other side Cameron does have his pride and he was called out in front of the public. Tiger's a man he know's he was wrong, he probably acted out of frustration in his putting and in fear of his father dying on him. You guys are going a little too far wit this. The day Tiger quits Cameron and goes with Nike is the day the sky falls. So far I have not seen a putter Tiger would remotely be interested, and that Nike Anser is a pretty poor portrayal.
