6 hours and 35 minutes...thats how long it took to play 18 holes at a muni track in Hawaii....2 hours 30 minutes for the first 5 holes.....ridiculous

Ouch.

I dragged through a 5 hour round yesterday and was getting mighty frustrated. Waited on every tee box while the group in front of us hacked it up from tee to green.

Can't imagine a round like that. I'd probably have walked off at the turn. :stop:

The longest round I've ever played was 6 hours... waiting and waiting and waiting

Damnnnnn...where did you play? I haven't been on any of the muni's lately, but I've never had a round longer then 4.5 at Makalena or Ala Wai.

Over 7 hours in a tournament once....teed off at 7:32 and it was almost 3 when I finally got back to the locker room to take my shoes off, the tournament just got finished as the sun set....

I was stuck 3 groups behind a foursome of bubbas at the local cheapo course. What was supposed to be a quick early round turned into over 2 1/2 hours of "come on!!" frustration. I thought it was gonna be bad even before they teed off (and almost went in to get a refund). You know, the kind of guys who all stand up on the tee box and say "I can't hit yet, I'll drive the green and hit those people" on a 300+ yard par4, then you get to watch every single one of them hit it MAYBE 150. Awful..and they all stroll up the fairways like they're out for their morning constitutional. aaaaargh!!!! :stop:

Of course, seeing as how I shot my lowest score yet that round, maybe I shouldn't complain too much.

Geesh...I've haven't been out there in about two years but have never seen it so bad. I hate it when they let out six-somes anywhere. Is Clyde Rego still out there at the Pro? If so, I hope you gave him an earful. :)

I've played in plenty of amateur tournaments where it takes upwards of 5 hours for a round, multiply that out over 4 days and it becomes quite tedious. Usually the problem is created by the course setup, thick knee high rough 20 feet feet off the fairway and then ankle deep rough around the green. Some of these courses are set up like a bloody US open track. Drive your ball in to a position where you can normally just walk over and find it and you end up hunting for your ball hoping that you find it before your 5 minutes is up.

Here in Australia our rounds also tend to slow down considerably come club championship time, most clubs have a four round tournament to decide the club "champion", sometimes it is over 4 saturdays, sometimes over 2 weekends with 18 on each saturday and sunday. They grow the rough, put the pins in the bunkers, everyone plays from the very back tees, it's stroke play so they keep playing until they hole out for a well made 9 and then everyone expects 60 year old choppers to get around the course in a normal amount of time, not going to happen. Add to this the fact that all these guys only play the one four round tournament a year and it's the biggest event of the year for them so they get nervous and play well over their handicap and it further slows things down.

i've played a few 5+ hour rounds, following tourists and junior golfers. i played in a foursome and caught up to a foursome (older tourist couples) who began four holes ahead of us. when we asked to play through they had the nerve to tell us to make sure we don't fall behind. WTF! they had a four hole head start, and they tell us not to fall behind?!

I played a nine hole course on the north side of Chicago. It took 3 hours to play, needless to say I didn't play 18 that day.

6 hours here too at Royal New Kent. The pace wasn't that fast and it made the matter worse when my friend and I joined up with another twosome who played from the blue tee while they should be playing from the white tee.

There's this one course here in southeast PA (I won't mention the name but it rhymes with Vella Bista) where 6.5 hours is typical. Its a slopy course with an unusually high hacker factor. The thing the hackers gotta learn is you don't need to play well to maintain proper pace.

They pumped the price up about 15 bucks for this season...maybe that'll keep some of the riff-raff away, but $70 for a six hour plus round seems more like a job than recreation.

We played a 6 hour round in a club tournament. It was at Harding Park in S.F. in late September. Just before the AMEX, they were growing out the rough, and starting to pinch in the fairways. Conditions were too tough for a club tourney!

The longest I've taken to play would have been about five and a quarter hours in (British) Open qualifying. One of our three ball dropped out and we ended up playing a 2-ball. That was pretty painful.

I also heard a story about a friend of mine who went to play at Deal (South east coast of England) and they managed to sneak off in front of a party of 12 from Japan. They played 18, went in and had lunch, then went out to play again and caught up with the 12 guys on the 12th hole. Then, the 12 guys' coach (bus) turned up to take them home and they left. Must have taken them five hours to play 12 holes and then leave. What's the point?
