Durable wedges

My problem is that I think my grooves have worn down too much (Cleveland 900's).

First question is... Is it more worth it to keep regrooving the wedges rather than buying new ones?
Will they spin as much as new wedges (and by that I mean will they spin as if they were in their original condition)?
Is there a limit to how many regrooves you can do?
Which wedges have durable grooves and look like by 900's?
Does a chrome finish help preserve the grooves?

Panting... that's a lot of questions. Any feedback will be appreciated.

- are you talking about regrooving or sharpening your grooves? its easy to sharpen grooves. i do that to my wedges every few monthes. regrooving can be costly and when regrooving you are going to affect the weight of the head and swing weights. plus depending on which wedge you like, it could be cheaper just to buy a new wedge. they will spin as much if not more. in regrooving you can get "tour" or box grooves or whatever cut into them. the only issue is you grooves might not be as deep which would really on affect spin from sand and rough ever so slightly.

 

- there is a number of regrooves because you are taking material away. i can't tell you how many. plus, at the cost of regrooving it might not be worth it.

 

- any chrome wedge is going to be more durable than a raw or oil can or black nickel. the chrome itself is more durable and also protects the club better from sand (leading culprit to wearing clubs down quickly).

Hmmm... maybe I should stop practicing 2 hours outta of the sand every weekend. On the other hand I do have a lot of bunks at my course....

 

How durable are the grooves on the Titleist SM and the Rac y cutters?

If anything... I'll try to find 900 chromes and if not, probable 588 chromes.

That's a lot of bunker practice! You might have to change your screen name to Gary Player. :)

 

I imagine the y cutters are quite durable since they're made of plated stainless steel.

 

The grooves on the chrome spin milleds are very durable (the milling marks are not though). I play and practice just about every day and haven't noticed any dramatic wear on my tour chrome I've havd for five months. I also practice on a very sandy range.

 

However, bunker practice will probably cause more rapid wear.

 

If you play and practice a lot you'll probably have to replace your wedges every season, that's just one of those facts of life.

900 forged wedges wear down fairly quick, but not as quick as CG10s or Spin Milled...

 

i think RAC wedges are pretty durable, i used to use chrome 60degree wedge for almost 2years, and still was able to get lots of spin out of it...

How about the new Rac Tp Y cutter wedges - are they also durable ?
