Ping G5 Driver re-shaft

I have acquired a Ping G5 driver and it needs a new shaft. I have a handicap of 10 and a swing speed of 100 - 102, and I am told I need a stiff ( or x-stiff ??? ) shaft.

 

Anyone have any recommendations ?

 

Also, is it worth having the shaft "Pured " ?

 

Any help would be appreciated.

PUREd Yes, had mine done a few weeks ago and very tight dispersion and all in the fairway.

 

I have a ss 100-105 and put a HTD 7520 in my launcher. If you like a heavy shaft (81g) then give this a try. I got a regular flex since it's a heavy shaft, it plays between a R and S.

 

Let us know what you do, I was thinking a bout getting a G5.

I have the G2 driver with a prolaunch 75S. I find it to be a great combo. My SS hovers around 104-108 at about an 85% swing. The shaft is very low torque and for me it produces a nice mid-high boring trajectory. I used to have a 65g prolaunch in my G2 and found it to be a little too lite. As far as the stiff or X-stiff I think the best possible outcome would be to try both and see how you hit them. In certain shafts I have used, I have had Xstiff and others just Stiff but both with similar results.

 

As far as getting the shaft pured I have mixed emotions on this. I have hit a couple of drivers with pured shafts with great results. But the driver is the strong point in my game so I cant really tell. In my current driver the shaft is not pured and I am hitting it as well as I ever had. I think that Pured shafts do give you a little mental edge though if you need it I believe.

 

I hope you get the shaft you need/want and the best possible shaft isnt what others are using but what you swing best.

Thanks for that I will let you know what I do - nice stance and follow through on the photo by the way, and whilst I note your taste in hats, can I assume you have progressed into trousers ( sorry pants - I'm in the UK ) !!!

Matt (Winston 99) - thank you for your comments, as a starting point I guess I am probably ok with a Fujikura / Aldila shaft etc ? :)

Oh definately! Both of those are fantastic shafts I just have a hard time with the Aldila series of shafts as well as some of the fuji's so I stick with what works for me. I do think that fujikura and Aldila are two of the top shaft companies in the world (they also add some cool factor) so if one of there shafts fit your swing thats the one for you! Hope everything works out!

The VS Proto "By You", in a 70 Stiff Pured (pricey... I hit a buddy's who is a pro at a Golf Course, it has the NV feel with an extra kick)

 

NV 65 stiff (good shaft, looks like it will be phased out by the VS)

 

V2 65 stiff (continually getting love by the pros, think of it as this years NV)

 

The slightly longer shaft works fine in the G5.

Not enough info to figure out flex. You could be any of R, S or X depending on how you swing. X is a bit counterintuitive but some guys at sub 100 do need X.

 

For a typical player, I've had great success with Accra Tour 60 and 70. I also like Grafalloy Comp NT (I generally despise Grafalloy but that's a good shaft). For Fujis, I stick with the Speeders or International series, nothing else except maybe Banzai for hybrids.

Opted for a Pured Aldila 65 stiff ( the green one ) and yes the cool factor will be nice.

 

Its ready tomorrow, can't wait to lash a few balls !

Need a little more info. like tempo/transition, ball flight, common misses, etc....

 

 

 

I would be glad to reccommend a AccuFLEX shaft to fit you. We do have "A Golf Shaft to Fit Every Swing"

 

 

 

Also our shafts have a tri-wound process and do not have a "spine"
