When did the "T" grind become the Tiger grind?

False advertising on ebay and elsewhere

Recently, 2 occasions I believe, I have seen Tour Vokey Prototypes with T grinds being advertised as representing Tigers personal grind created with Bob Vokey.
The T grind has been around before Tiger started playing Vokey wedges. It does not represent Tigers personal grind or a grind Tiger designed with Vokey.
This is purely a rant, but one worth letting out. If you are going to sell something that is rare and potentially drawing a big ticket price, don't misrepresent the item. In many professional fields, this type of advertising is a misdemenor of the first degree. Taking advantage of the open marketplace is in the realm of stealing in my opinion.

2 possibilities:

 

1. Whoever he originally bought it from gave him this false information

 

2. He decided it sounded REALLY GOOD and that it would get more bids because of it.

$400-$450 is what the wedge should go for. It's just not a "Tiger" grind. Just a T grind. Believe Tom Pernice designed the grind with Vokey.

 

Doesn't have the ring to it that "Tiger Woods Grind" has does it?

This is good info. Can someone explain the different Vokey grinds and possibly who they were made for? I am looking for a 59* or 60* that has less than 8* of bounce and sits very close to the ground. I would also like to be able to open it up and play flop shots with it. My fairways are tight and my bunkers are firm. I'm not trying to hijack the thread, I am just trying to figure out which grind would suit me best and learn more about these great wedges.

I just picked up an L grind which is supposed to be a great wedge for flop shots. An M grind wedge would be a very good wedge to buy to experiment with. The vokey special M grind is one you can pick up for less than $100 with a great grind on it.

 

I'll post pics of my L grind in a few.

Here it is. Supposed to be a combo of the P grind and M grind I believe.

Metalhead had an "L" Grind recently and said that the "L" was for Lefty-Phil. I had heard that this was made for Davis Love III and the "P" Grind was for Phil. Can anyone confirm? By the way, does the Spin Milled Tour spin more than the Prototype that you have pictured gburgs?

I heard "P" actually stands for "P"re-worn sole, it was just a coincidence that Phil loved it so much.

This is a little off the topic - but there are constantly sets of 1980s - 1997 Titleist Tour Model blades, listed on eBay as "The Clubs Tiger used" or the like. Some even say Tiger used them in his amateur days. To the best of my knowledge, he played Pings, then Mizunos. The only Titleist blades he ever played were the 'sort-of-681s", but with the higher muscle than retail.

 

Again, buyer beware. People also list Nike Slingshots referencing Tiger Woods. Right...

 

It might be a cool thing to compile a database of Vokey grinds and such.

What are the advantages of the "M" grind? With my fairways being tight and my bunkers being firm, I think that the "L" grind would be best for me. I'm also going to call Joe today and discuss with him.

I don't know how the L grind plays yet. I just picked the wedge up a couple weeks ago and have not had a chance to use it yet.

I called Joe and spoke with him. The "M" Grind is what I need. I'm having 2 of them done. One more aggressive and one less aggressive. Joe is so knowledgeable and great to talk to on the phone. Anyone that plays a retail wedge should have Joe grind it for them. It will only improve your scores---Dan
