I am looking for the same thing in the houston area. I bought a set of TM 300 just to see how they hit and i fell in love with them but they are really banged up. The groves are bad and a lot of scratches although they don't effect the play. It might be better to buy a better set i have no idea what a fefinishing job would cost you.

The last I heard quoted from most refinishers is about 30-40 bucks per club. So it can be kind of costly.

I had Golfworks rechrome two heads of mine for 18 each. They are not players anymore (for future display), so I cannot attest to the durability. Golfsmith also does rechroming as well as The Iron Factory - but they appear to be in tranistion to a new location. I did send back the heads to Golfworks since some of the painfill was either never done or it came off.

Wow, I can't believe something that good looking came out of a Golfsmith process. :golfer:

Really nice looking finish product, drstroud!

I believe Ironfactory is gone for good, they're facing some SERIOUS environmental litigation and fines from their previous location in California. Admitting what they did, I wouldn't give them my busiiness even if they do resurface.

Escondido businessman admits to illegal water dump

By: TERI FIGUEROA - Staff Writer

NORTH COUNTY ---- An Escondido business owner accused of illegally dumping industrial waste into the city's sewer system ---- a move the city claims ultimately led it to face state fines nearing $1.2 million ---- has pleaded guilty to one count of unlawful discharge of pollutants.

James Kronus of Valley Center, owner of the Iron Factory at 639 Aero Way in Escondido, faces a penalty of up to three years in prison and a $50,000 fine for each day of violation of the law.

A federal prosecutor alleged that investigators found a hole punched in a concrete-sealed pipe at Kronus' company, allowing the company to discharge industrial wastewater illegally into the city's sewer system.

City officials have blamed the discharge from Kronus' business for a 2004 breakdown of the city's Hale Avenue wastewater plant ---- which led to a $1.2 million fine from the San Diego Regional Water Quality Control Board.

But a state water control board's report from July 2005 sharply downplayed Kronus' role in the breakdown. It held that the plant's water quality violations resulted from faulty monitoring equipment and the city's ineffective response to trouble, rather than incoming pollution.

Regional Water Quality Control Board officials have said they could remove most of the fine if Escondido can show that the breakdown was caused by a third party.

The dispute between the city and water quality control officials is separate from the criminal case against Kronus.

Kronus, whose company refinished golf clubs for more than three decades, initially pleaded not guilty to the April 2005 criminal charge. On Feb. 3, less than two weeks before his trial was to start, Kronus changed his plea to guilty.

Kronus could not be reached for comment Tuesday, and a notice on the Iron Factory's Web site states that the business is moving to Grand Junction, Colo.

Kronus' attorney, Pat Swan, said his client admitted to a one-time discharge of "water that contained a soapy solution" in 2003.

"It was a small amount," Swan said, "but because he wasn't permitted to discharge anything, it was a violation."

The city claimed in a report that gallons of chemicals had been dumped down the pipe.

And Assistant U.S. Attorney Melanie Pierson alleged in court documents filed in the criminal case against Kronus that the businessman told an investigating agent from the Environmental Protection Agency that he was "aware that caustic cleaning solution was being disposed of through the illegal connection."

Kronus, who Swan said has already closed the Escondido shop and moved to Colorado, entered his plea before a federal magistrate judge in San Diego. Kronus will be back in court April 24 to see if U.S. District Judge Roger T. Benitez will officially accept the plea.

In 1994, the city issued a permit to Kronus' business to dump a limited amount of waste into the city's sewer system, according to court documents filed by federal prosecutor Pierson.

In 1997, Kronus told the city he no longer needed to discharge industrial wastewater into the sewer, so the city issued a new permit barring the Iron Factory from doing so ---- and sealed the company's access to the pipe with concrete.

Pierson alleged in court documents that Escondido experienced "upsets" in its sewage plant in 2004. In August of that year, city and county inspectors went to the Iron Factory and found, hidden behind a cinder block, a small hole chiseled in the concrete wall, which opened up access to the sewer pipe.

In December 2004, the regional water quality control board hit the city of Escondido with almost $1.2 million in fines for water quality violations at the Hale Avenue treatment plant.

City officials say the plant broke down because toxic waste, allegedly dumped by Kronus' company, killed bacteria designed to help the treatment plant process sewage. For weeks, neighbors noticed the odor of incompletely treated sewage.

Swan, Kronus' attorney, said Tuesday that the state report from the Water Resources Control Board confirmed that the problems were caused by the plant operations and not by external sources. That report was done during a federal investigation into the plant's breakdown.

"He (Kronus) didn't contribute or harm the city's sewer system one iota," Swan said. "He took responsibility for a single discharge."

Swan also noted that Escondido has not filed a civil action against his client.

The city is still in the middle of its battle with the Regional Water Quality Control Board.

On Tuesday, Escondido City Attorney Jeffrey Epp said the city will file papers with the regional water board in the next few weeks stating its position as to how Kronus' action allegedly affected the sewer plant.

The dispute is set to head to the Regional Water Quality Control Board in May, for a determination of what fines, if any, will be levied against the city.

Meanwhile, the city and the regional water board are in settlement talks, said Mark Alpert, an enforcement coordinator with the water board.

If the board maintains the $1.17 million fine it could levy against Escondido, it would be among the five highest fines ever handed down by the regional board, Alpert said.

Golfsmith also does iron refinishing but I cannot attest to the quality since I have not used their service.
