905R, J33, MX500

Which one?

I'm a new guy here.

With my wife's blessing (honest) I'm shopping for a new driver.

I currently have a Mizuno MP 460 10.5* with an NV 75R. The 75R seems to match up well with my swing. CPMs at 250. I like the weight and the low torque but could maybe use a little softer tip.

I'm a single digit handicap. The strengths of my game are that I rarely hit the ball sideways. I usually keep it in play but lack distance off the tee that puts pressure on the other parts of my game; lack of length means longer 2nd shots; longer 2nd shots means more missed GIR; and so on.

I have demo'ed the 905R and the J33 460. I haven't hit the MX500 but been told I should. The R and the Bridgestone were both fine but neither knocked my socks off. On the other hand, neither had a shaft I would be very likely to play so maybe matched up properly I'd love them.

Any other suggestions for a driver and/or a shaft that would match up well per my above comments? I've always been intrigued by the Purple Ice but never hit one. The ZCOM sounds good too.

The ZCOM series is a great shaft IMO. I've used the TW 74 before and would not hesitate to use again.

As far as knocking socks off goes, those two drivers are really solid that you tried, and the MX500 will be the same. Solid sound and feel, maybe not noticeable difference from your MP001. I would look into the Tour Edge Exotics, Macgregor NVG2 drivers (hear the Tour and the regular version are great). I've also read good things about the Hi-Bore, if you can get over the look. The R7 460 looked decent to me, but the 9.5 and 10.5 which are out right now can come pretty closed faced. Name of the game: DEMO!! Good luck.

if i was in your situation, i would first and formost get fitted on a launch monitor by a credible dealer!!!!! sounds to me to make the most sense, right??? that way you can figure out what loft, shaft, head would be best for you.
