Purple Ice Shaft

95-105 swing speed

I have a swing speed of 95 - 105. I'm not really big on the Boardy feel of the Grafalloy Launcher series... I've been hearing quite a bit about the Graphite Design Purple Ice.

What I'm wondering is, do you think its a good driver shaft? or more for fairway woods. also If I had it cut down to 44 1/2 inches would it be better for me to bump up to the 75g shaft? or stay with the 65g.

Also if you have a favourite shaft please let me know, but please also comment on the original topic.

My only experience with the Purple Ice shaft is with the original 83g. 2.5* stiff (factory install on a 580XD driver) and thought it was a great shaft with a very smooth feeling to it.

 

I want to go back to it and have a brand new uncut one that I'm waiting to find the right driver head for. I noticed now GDI has a whole line of Purple Ice shafts now ranging from 56-93g.

 

If you are comfortable with a certain swing weight at your current driver length, just remember for every 1/2 in. taken off the shaft you will lose 3 sw (ex. D3 at 45" will be D0 at 44.5"). A heavier shaft might be the way to go if you are planning to have it cut down to a shorter length than in your past drivers and you can also add some lead tape to the head to get the right feel.

With a swing speed in the upper 90's, I play a G5 Ping with a 65g Purple Ice stiff at 45.5", it's a great combo for me, high launch with nice flat trajectory and a lot of feal. I am able to still work the ball in both directions, and control is not a problem. I've had the original in my 3 wood for about three years now, and will not be changing it anytime soon, when the new version came out in lighter weights, I made the switch from YS 6+ in my driver. Same good feal, but much better control and flatter trajectory giving probably an added 10 yds. of roll.

I use it inmy Hi-Bore. It added about 10-15 yards of roll to my drive. It launches nice and high and bores through the air. Nice combo.

tbowles411 Just wondering how you decided on the shaft in the first place. Also what is your launch angle with the 10.5 degree Hibore head? Was it significantly better than the 9.5? With the stock Stiff shaft in my 9.5 Hibore head I had a launch angle of 15 degrees witch I am very happy with.
