For a noob

I am thinking of joing a local match play league here and I was wondering if anyone good help me out with the rules and regulations for match play....I have never play Match before and I don't want to look like a complete tool so any advice will help out alot

Here's the USGA's rules on Match Play, that's a good place to start.

 

If you have any questions after reading that, I'm sure people will be able to answer them.

One important difference...the player that's away always has the right of turn, even if the nearer player is off the green while the player away is putting.

Annika in the solehiem cup, although it was VERY close. She should have asked for a measurement.

 

Annika holed out a very tough chip, and after she did Dottie Pepper (I believe) asked a rules official to measure the distances off, and she wasn't away by a very small amount. Annika was asked to replay the shot, she didn't hole it, and the US went on to win the Solheim cup that year.

not sure if she forgot or just didn't realize she wasn't away... it was Annika, in a Solheim Cup match.

If there's a rules official ask him if you ever have a question.

 

If no official, you and your opponent should agree about who is away. Pace it off if neccessary. Remember that even if you're off the green and chipping 20 feet over a bunker and your opponent is on the green 50 feet away, the person who is furthest away still plays first.
