lead tape on your wedges

I am looking to loose a little bit of height in my wedges

I have been told that by putting lead tape on my wedges can help.

I am just wondering where about i would place this lead tape in order to give me the lower ball flight i am searching for?

You can't really add lead tape in a concentrated enough fashion to raise the wedge's COG enough to lower ball flight. Lead tape high on the club will raise the COG, but not enough to make a noticeable difference in ball flight. Also, if you are able to add enough lead tape to raise COG, it will affect the swing weight of the club and affect your tempo and possibly timing.

 

Soem people think porting wedges (drilling holes low on the back) and making up the lost weight with lead tape can lower ball flight. Some wedges like Vokey 400 series and wedges with long hosels (liek the Bridgestone J33) also have a high COG, so they might be an option.

 

The most important factor in wedge height is your swing. If you can keep your hands ahead, you will hit the ball lower. Moving teh ball alittle back in your stance can help as well. Hitting a low spinning wedge is really more of a technique issue than an equipment issue.

i went to CG11's b/c it was easy to add a ton of tape on the wedge to lower flight after weight was lost after grinding. i've found with CG10's that they had to drill a hell of a lot off the head to move enough weight & they advised me to goto the CG11's as it would be easier to achieve what i wanted. but as TM fan said, you'll hafta throw a lot of tape on there, it was easy for me because we lost a lot of weight when they ground the sole & needed a lot of lead tape to get it back to d5 s/w.

the best way is to get your wedges reshafted...have your clubmaker put an 8 iron frequency shaft into your wedge...the ball flight will certainly come down if you do that. lead tape will only increase the swingweight.

 

How will adding a more tip flexable shaft into your wedge bring down your ball flight?

First remove the head from the shaft, and weigh it. Then drill two holes about 2" apart from each other low on the muscle cavity. If you have a Vokey drill on both sides of the 3 lines. Weigh your head again. Try to remove 10 grams of weight all together. Then take a 10 gram plug and epoxy it in the shaft tip and install. Although you may not see tons of difference but it will be noticeable. I would start slowly, and drill as much as 15 grams and replace it in the tip.
