Cleveland Irons

WOW!!!!
So i tried my first set of Cleveland irons last night and was blown away! So much so to the point that i traded in my TM RAC LT's and picked up a gorgeous set of Cleveland TA1 3-PW in the glorious Gunmetal finish. These things are butter soft and feel better than my previous set of TM RAC CB's which were forged by Miura!!!!

Anyone else hit the TA1's and love them? I am a true club ho at heart, but these babies are staying for quite some time. And for those who know me, i mean more than 2 weeks!!!!!

Good job Cleveland on the great irons and goodbye Taylormade!

I feel your love. The short irons are the best looking short irons I've ever seen. No bulking flange, just small and simple and feel fantastic! The ballflight is awesome with them as well...

I can't comment on the TA1's since I have never hit them, but I did play some TA-2's for about a year and absolutelyloved them. I eventually traded them for some TM RAC LT's. Love the control and ballfilght of my LT's but I wish I had never gotten rid of the TA2's. For a cast club, these were some of the softest feeling clubs I have ever hit that were not forged. Cleveland has very good products, just alot less hype and tour/TV presence.

I bet you'll be back to TM sooner than you think. :)

Don't be too sure. :cheesy: I was all over the place with clubs before I settled on CG. I even have newer and modern sets, but STILL went back to my "old" CG4s. The feel is awesome!

When I was looking for a GI iron the TA6 was one of the ones I tried. Excellent irons. I just liked the 4-50* setup of the Berthas over the 3-P setup of the TA6's, but they performed equally well.

Why do manufacturers sell GI irons 3-P anyways?

That's how manufactures get suckers to buy gap wedges? It's all about the money, right?

And whoever said TA2s are good? I second that. I love them; happy that I never bought the Nike Pro Combo or MP33 instead.

Glad you like your Cleveland irons! Congrats! I've only been playing 4 years and have had 2 iron sets. Cleveland TA-5's and TA-7's. I'm still using the TA-7's now and really doubt that I will be changinig. I would have to agree that Cleveland makes solid products, but don't get as noticed as some of the other OEM's.

Steve81;

In a recent survey of iron sets in play on the PGA Tour, the most used model set is the Cleveland TA 1. You're in great company! I think the survey counted fifteen sets in play. Maybe some other wrxer's who have better memories than me can remember where this data was published, and then provide a link to it!

The TA3's are absolutely increadable. I have been playing a set for about four years now and have yet to have a reason to change them. I think I will make a switch to the CG1 Black Pearls this season, but I know the TA3's will be a great back-up.

I play the TA3 FF myself, and they feel and hit so nice. Not bulky at address, and pretty forgiving and workable. Great set of irons.

Man I didnt realize how many people played clevelands irons on here. The TA1s are really great clubs. I picked up a set of TA1s for my birthday a couple years ago and fell in love with cleveland stuff. This past summer I sold them and bought some TA2s in the hope of a little more forgivness. I got the forgiveness and Ive really liked the TA2s, two great sets of clubs! This coming summer Im going to try to pic up another set of TA1s because Ive really missed them. I think all in all if you play quite a bit your ball striking just ends up being better with blades. On top of that a good set of used TA1 can go for around 170 on ebay( ;) ). Also I was at the golf store yesterday and really looked at the CG4T's and I thought they would have a lot more offset and be more bulky looking, I was pleasently suprised. There really good looking clubs and so are the CG2s and 1's. I hate to see people rip on cleveland so much. Its true they arnt seen much on the PGA, but when I went to the cox classic (Nationwide) this summer I saw quite a few cleveland bags, which is good. I think cleveland needs some youger players (VJs gettin old). Adam Scott like players. Shoot, try and sign adam (doubtful), that would be awsome.

I had the 2004 BB's. This is a stupid gripe, but I couldn't get used to the 10i vs PW. I know same club, different name, but it just seemed weird to me. That was a stupid marketing move, happy to see they killed that idea with the 06 BB's.

As for the Cleveland Irons, my only expirience with them was hitting a CG4 6iron into a launch monitor for a bit. Seemed like a very nice iron, got good distance, and all in all were nice clubs. But I would have to say, that if you are looking for a set of any GI irons, you would be hard pressed to grab any set of clubs from any of the top manufacturers and say it's a POS. They all make really nice clubs, some just get more press/love than others.

I'll join this bandwagon thread...I love my CG2's and my CG11 lob wedge. The feedback of the CG2's is great. You get gradual feedback the farther from the sweetspot you get so you can tune your striking and know when you are starting to stray and go back to bad habits. And then when you really hit a bad shot, they will punish you good so you won't want to do it again. Before these clubs I had Mizuno Altron cavity backs that were fine and all, but they didn't help me get to be a better striker simply because the feedback wasn't there like my CG2's. Also controlling the ball is much better. I never could get a 3 iron approach shot to sit on the green with my Altrons like I can with my CG2's, and I now can consistently get about a foot of backspin on the ball with my P wedge.

Agree, CG2 is a perfect balance between forgivingness and workability, at least for current me. BTW, they are longer than most game improvement irons.

I've always been a Cleveland iron fan. I've had the TA2, TA5 and TA7s.

I recently bought some TA3's for my winter set. $100 on ebay buy it now. And as a bonus, they came with brand new golf pride whisper grips.

No one has even mentioned Cleveland's best iron - the TA 7 Tour. I don't understand why Cleveland took this iron off the market (I know about the CG 4 Tour). The TA 7 Tour played great, forgiving, less offset, great ballflight, etc. For a midcapper this is one of the best irons.

This is great to hear - especially since I picked up a sweet set of TA7 Tours w/DGSL300s on eBay. Can't wait to put these bad boys into play!
