speeder 757 vs Diamana 73

I currently have a Speeder 757 Stiff in my 905R 9.5, and have been hitting it well, but the ball flight is a tad bit low and the club feels a bit heavy for me. My swing speed is about 106-108 avg., and I'm about a 4-5 hdcp. After about 14 holes, it feels like I'm swinging a telephone pole(no offense to 757 fans). What I was thinking, is that the Diamana 73 S plays to almost the same specs according to Titleist's website, but is a about 9 grams lighter, and will produce a slightly higher ball flight. What my question is, does the Diamana feel alot softer than the Speeder 757 or similar, and do you recommend tipping it to get the desired stiffness? I want it probably in between a S and X flex.

Actually kind of a complicated question. It depends on who does the installation. If your 757 was installed by Titleist it was installed full bore. The 757 plays very stiff when installed in this manner. Titleist uses special Diamana shafts with a longer tip section in the full bore installation that play true to flex. The Diamana Titleist installation will play a lot softer than the 757 Titleist installation. The Titleist Speeder shaft has a longer tip section than the 757 and also plays truer to flex. You will need to do some experimenting. If the 757 feels good to you but a little boardy, I think you should be looking at a Titleist Speeder X or a Titleist installed Diaamana X. If you want to reshaft your current driver a good clubmaker can do a blind bore install with 757's or Diamana's set up exactly where you want them.

Can't really improve on what KC said just gve my impressions of each. I demoed each of these shafts before settling on the 757. The Diamana flew just as high as the OEM NVS shaft I had in my driver at the time. The 757 has worked very well for me in keeping my ball flight down on a more boring trajectory with good rollout afterwards. Prevoiously I was getting high launch, all carry and almost no roll. I'm a high ball hitter. The Diamana may be better suited for your game. Before dropping the $$ though (and you will!)I would definitely hit them side by side like I did.

Good luck.

I'm thinking of going down the Diamana 83 route after trying some of the stick shafts and not really liking them (V2 etc). Think I will go X also as I heard the S plays a bit soft.

Thanks guys. What if I was installing a regular diamana 73S and not a Titleist one. Will the full bore make it play pretty stiff. I liked the stiffness of the 757, but that along with the weight it might be too much shaft for me. Or would you recommend me tipping the Diamana prior to placement as a full bore to make it play between a stiff and x-flex? Does 1/4-1/2" sound like enough tipping if a regular diamana is installed full bore in a 905R? I have already bought the shaft from a friend for $80, so I'm not losing my a** here.

I used a 73 Diamana last year fully installed (not longer tip version). It was a little too stiff for me, but no stiffer than the 757 fully inserted. I really think that might work for you. As a reference my swing speed is just over 100, I'll bet yours is faster.

EDIT: I just noticed your swing speed. I would think fully inserted with no extra tipping would be a great fit.

Thanks Kevin. Nice bag by the way. I think I will probably go with the Diamana 73S either tipped 1/4" and full bore insertion or just a full bore no tipping. You are the only one that seems to know what you're talking about plus we play the same driver and our swing speeds are within 4-6 mph. I am sure it willl work.

Depends on your transition too!! Are you really aggressive! Or a smooth swinger? Or hitter? The 757 will handle all you got and then some . Yeah it's a heavy stiff shaft, that why mostly tour pros use it! ( no offense) I have a 757!with a ss around 108-115,if you are aggressive and have a late release go with the diamana! And iff you feel like you gotta give it all, you got to make the shaft work it's probably to heavy and stiff! Just ny 2 cents! PGA TEACHING PRO LEVEL 2 rst golf instructor as we'll personally I'd go with the fujikura pro TS 73 the all white shaft with fujikura in black !! Freakin awesome!!! I have it in my 3 wood ,track man was giving me numbers I couldn't believe 276 carry! 291 total ,or you my try the AD-DI-7 or 8. Good luck!!
