Upright Lie Angles and Wedges

For those of you that play with upright lie angles, do you have your wedges bent too? I'm going to 2* up on my irons. I can only assume the same should happen to my wedges - but you never (aside from Ping) see wedges available with upright (or flat) lies.

 

Your thoughts, please?

Magnut, I'm no expert but I know I need upright lie angles on my wedges for full shots. I've got my irons and wedges at +2 upright (my shafts are longer as well, I'm 6'6). I've got all my 4 wedges (46, 51, 56 and 60) at the same shaft length and lie angle and my full shots with each are much better for it. On chips and pitches I can manipulate standard lie angle wedges to give me even turf contact, on flop and bunker shots I'm not sure it matters as much either as long as the grind/bounce combination is to your preference. With standard length/lie wedges I consistently make toe deep contact on full swings.

yup i am the same, have all my irons and wedges 2 up...as far as length, every iron and wedge is +3/4"...i tried having the wedges all the same length as you, but did not like it for some reason...my local club-builder likes the idea of having the same length on wedges, and i guess there are different philosophies out there on it....

From what I understand lie of clubs becomes more important(noticable trajectory changes) the shorter the club. That's why with woods it isn't as important and doesn't make as much of a difference. With that being said it would actually be just as important or more so to have your wedges accurately fitted for lie.

Ditto on the 2* upright irons. I notice that now I've started to stand in a more consistent position with the wedges also; they were just bent last week. I think I'm definitely making more quality shots, whether it's a placebo effect or not, I'm happier.

Just to make things clear, the more LOFT a club has the greater of an effect lie angle will have on misses.

 

A club's length affects lie angle. For each 1/2 you remove from a club, the club effectively becomes 1* flatter, for each 1/2 inch you add, the club is 1* more upright.

 

You should definatley get your wedges dynamically fitted for lie. Some golfers swing their wedges differently than their other irons, so it'd be a good idea to get fitted for them individually. Even though you're 2* upright on your other irons, you may be less with the shorter and more lofted wedge.
