Golfers who Wear Prescription Glasses

I just had my prescription changed. I wear Progressive lenses in my glasses. I could play with my old prescription with no problem. Now, it appears I may have to resort to what I did playing tennis, and that is: Wearing just a distance lens. I'm just curious what other golfers do for this problem. Presbyopia, or Aging Eyes is the most common eye problem which affects just about everyone when they reach the age of 40-45. So, don't laugh about this if you are younger, cuz you're gonna get there soon enough! I have a 12 index and fought very hard to get it there. Don't want these damn glasses to ruin my game. I'm going to take them back and have the reading lens lowered some, but still may have my distance lens glasses re-vamped. What do you golfers who wear glasses do? :)

I have single vision lenses in my sunglasses just for this reason. With my regular glasses I can't see the ball on regular shots because of the progression which is discomforting. Maybe I could get used to it, like happened with walking down stairs, but it is much easier to just wear the sunglasses, even on overcast days. If I need to read anything I just take my glasses off. Works well for me.

I got Rx sunglasses and contacts specifically for golf. I told my eye doc that I needed to see clearly from about 4' to about 12' so that I could see the ball and read greens. both work really well, although it took a couple tries to find a brand of contacts that fit my eye well and were good outdoors. Now I wear the sunglasses on sunny days and the contacts on cloudy/rainy days. It is a great improvement for me. The vision correction is enough that I can now use yardage books again and read scorecards (text is still slightly blurry, but I can make out yardages, etc.).

I have been wearing progressives for about 6 years but not on the golf course. I kept my old single lens prescriptions for golf only. They stay in the bag. I have to take them off to read yardages on the scorecard but trying hit shots and putt through those progressives didn't work. Tried again this year and there was break on the greens that really wasn't there. Wished I could wear contacts but I can't.

 

In another alarming age issue I can't wear a Visor anymore as the top of the head burns!

I have been golfing with glasses everysince I started and have had no problems...I also were contacts now so I recommend you get contacts it might help...

Well being in that club I can understand your predicament.

When I first went to progressive lenses I had a hard time evening walking down stairs.

As far as golf as long as I could see the ball in relatively decent focus at address I was OK. I just learned not to shift my head to bring it in sharp focus as that caused my head to be in the wrong position and caused swing problems. December of 1998 I had Lasik (last time my insurance would pay for it) best move I ever made. Now I can wear whatever sunglasses I want and don't get those nasty rain spots on my glasses.

One good thing at 55 is that because of good genes (thanks Mom and Dad) I can still wear a visor.

Nearly all contacts today are "throw away," the most you would usually ever keep one pair is about a month.
