Elks CC in McDermott, Ohio (near Portsmouth on the Ohio River) is a 1923 Donald Ross gem, right smack in the middle of nowhere. Literally. Although the weather is still iffy here in Ohio mid-April, a few friends and I drove 115 miles to try this course out. It rained all night the evening before and on the way there, thus a 45 minute rain delay upon arrival, we finished out our round in 4 hours 15 minutes with a stop at the turn. They have a nice little pro shop with pretty good prices on apparel. The course is semi private, just call one week in advance for a tee time. I personally love Donald Ross golf courses and could play this one for the rest of my life. We played the tips (not a great idea when you haven't really played since December for 4 days in SC and before that the end of October) close to 6700 yards. About $25.00 to walk 18. I took a cart on the back nine for $7.50. Rolling terrain and excellent variety to all the holes. The grass bunkering is outstanding as well. I'll go back in mid-summer when the conditions are much faster and greener....enjoy these pics. If you are passing through Southeastern Ohio, you owe it to yourself to play here!!!
