i'm the worst putter in the world

Recommended Posts

i am by far the worst putter in the world. yesterday i had 37 putts with 2 - 3 putts from inside 10'. today it got even worse, a wooping 45 putts. i 3 putted 10 holes. i will confess the greens were rock hard and some were slow and some were fast, but there is no excuse for 10 - 3 putts.

i think the yes callie needs to sit in the corner and think about what she has done and the scotty newport beach needs to salvage the weekend.

anyone else a worse putter than me?

I can sympathise, I'm a streaky putter. There are days when I make everything I look at, and there are others where I couldn't buy a putt. I don't understand why I can't always have those good days. :)

Putting's all about confidence and selective memory.

Bob Rotella tells a great story about Jack Nicklaus giving a talk one day. He said, "I've never had a 3 putt in a major championship." A gentleman rose his hand and said, "But Mr. Nicklaus I remember watching you 3 putt the 16th at the US Open in 1984 . . ." Nicklaus replied, "No I didn't" and kept on talking.

The point of the story is that Jack had such strong selective memory and confidence that he literally blocked out all his poor putting performances. If you feel like you're going to make a putt, you will.

Read Bob Rotella's Putting out of Your Mind. Great book that's all about the mental aspects you need to be a great putter. Lots of good drills and he really focuses on mastering speed, because line is so dependent on it.

Another good piece of putting advice comes from Jackie Burke Jr. He advised his students to practice 4 footers and 40 footers. The point being that people usually don't need help from 35-6 feet, they need help not 3 jacking the long ones and pushing / pulling the short ones. Focus on those and your scores will drop.

Hope that helps.

putting was better today, but still bad. the scotty cameron newport beach came through today. played 36 holes, and the first 18 i had 35 putts, and 36 putts on the second 18. i had a good 8 putts over the 36 holes that came up less than 6 inches short. still, this isn't where i want to be. i think i'm gonna be spending a lot more time on the practice green now. really want my putts in the 30-28 per round range, with anything just sugar on the top.

What are you misses? Is it speed? Line?

I tend miss with my speed. I need to work on that allot.

My newest thought in golf is a preshot routine, this goes for every shot. I have brought my scores allot lower remembering to do this.

I actually like to mimic Annika sorenstam when I put. I think she has a solid routine, and I love the way she doesn't look at the ball after she hits the put... she just swings through and waits for a sound.

I believe this works if you have a solid pre shot routine find the line and speed, then take your stroke... if you do this there is no need to adjust, you can just trust it. Sinks more putts for me.

Great Post! :cheesy: More and more I find myself becoming a taylormadefan fan. :cheesy:

I agree 100% with Rotella's approach, however in the interest of providing some different insight, give the Pelz Putting Bible a shot. I'm not completely sold on Pelz's technical "Nasa" approach, but he does provide enough information (info overload) to give you an idea of where to look when things go bad. There is a lot of great information on reading greens (where I learned the most) and some good drills to try to make sure you're "doing what your supposed to." By the end of the book though, you start to wonder if Pelz and Perfy had something going on behind the scenes though.

Another, oft-overlooked approach is to buy yourself another putter, shoot . . . buy five! Sometimes rotating through will help keep your putting fresh, and should help you figure out exactly what you like through trial and error. Buy a high-moi putter when you need help with your allignment, a lighter putter for working with speed, a heavy putter when you need to work on grooving your stroke and tracking, and an expensive "bling" putter when you just need a little sumthin' sumthin' to feel good about yourself. :cheesy:

Trust me, I'm the worst putter. I don't know how many 3 putts I had today en route to a horrific 102. :cheesy: :cheesy:

But then again, the greens were honestly as fast as the linoleum on a kitchen floor, the Stimp would have been at about a 16 for a guess. And the slopes of these greens had to sit on 45° angles, no lie. :) :cheesy: :cheesy:

I was the worst putter in the world. I mean come on who takes a divot on a putt!? I was horrible but apparently 500 putts in one day at the green sure helped (bucket of 50 balls 10 times lmfao). Just go out there and work on it man and youll be fine. Also, one thing I noticed is that, its easier to use a putter shorter than the std 35". Go to a shop and try a 34" or 33". Youll see the difference trust me!

Trust you?!? You took a divot on the green! "Trust" isn't the verb I was thinking of! :golfer:

Well omar I am gonna give you my first rule of practicing, this was one of the first things i was taught about the short game so I'm gonna pass it along to you.

If you want to work on something technical in your short game, you can use range balls but it's gonna do absolutely nothing for your feel because a range ball doesn't react like the golf ball you use day in day out on the course, so practicing with your own balls helps give you a feel as well as technique in your short game.

happy practicing

Right now I'm putting worse than I ever have before. Last season my putting was a strong point in my game, but so far I really suck. My worst day so far of putting was 6 3-putts and 1 3 footer missed on 9 holes where I wound up shooting 41(and I'm a friggin +2 hdcp :golfer: ). But I have been playing better and my Dad is working with me. Both he and I have noticed that my setup, alignment, and stroke are about as perfect as can be, but I just can't read greens. This is weird because I used to be able to read any putt easily and knock it in with confidence.

I am the worst putter in the world, but I burried 3 putts over 25 ft last friday. It's all about confidence, the more you think you can, then you can. I also believe in the "Charma of the Cameron". Talk about a big confidence builder, WOW!!! Lose your Callie and stick with Cameron. The Callie is like putting with a cinder block, anyway!!!

i second that adam...very well put! unless ur a tour pro your range balls are probly rock flites. i personaly have a shag-bag of prov's but i never thought to put them all on the green and putt w/ them but maybe if no one was on the green, however i personal favorite putting drill id the circle drill. in the circle drill you put 8 balls in a circle around a hole about 2 feet from it, once u make them all move the circle back a foot and just keap doing it. i would also pick up a putting arch they are great.

hope this helps,

andrew
