I got hit with a ball today

practice hurts
So I was hitting some chips and putts on the practice green today. Well there was these two younger kids messing around trying to out flop each other to a tight pin. After I hit a few chips I went to pick up my balls. I was bent over facing away from the two younger kids when all of a sudden I felt and heard a thwack. One of the kids bladed his shot and it hit me right in the back side. All I can say is talk about a pain in the "beep". The kid that did it felt terrible about it and after a bunch of apologize we all had a lil laugh about it seeing we all have bladed a few trying to hit the ultimate flop shot. For some reason though I think I'm a magnet for golf balls!!! I'm going to have to start wearing pads when I go to the golf course with my luck. Just thought I would share my story so you guys could have a lil laugh at my expense. Oh yeah...I have a nice lil bruise on my back side now.

once playing with a couple of college buddies, one of my friends had an akward stance on the edge of a bunker. while he was trying to situate himself a guy from the next fairway over started coming down our fairway for his ball. well, my friend hits not noticing the guy. blades the ball, falls into bunker onto his bunk (absolutely hillarous - probably 5 foot drop, just lands on his back) and the ball makes a huge low cut and nails the guy right in the chest. he drops like a rock so we run up to him thinking our friend might have just killed him. turns out just knocked the wind out of him and he was laughing, saying he deserved it for hitting his ball into the wrong fairway. glad the guy was alright and even he thought it was hillarous how our friend fell into the bunker.

I love threads like these :)

A couple of months ago, I was practicing at the range. We have a practice green for chipping, pitching and sand play right next to the range.

I was working on hogan's one piece "triangle take away" which incorporated a quasi-flying right elbow which I would reherse a few times.

Before a swing, I was practicing this and all of a sudden I see a ball go right through the space between my arms and body and then hear a meek little "fore!"

I turned around ready to twist someone's head off when I see a little kid red in the face with his head slightly down. I just laughed, kids don't know any better and I've bladed a few in my day as well (although never hitting anyone, knock on wood).

It also hit me that the chance of recreating that episode and not hitting anything while still going through the space between my arms and body on my backswing were about a million to one. :cheesy:

My brother and I are playing back in December. I've hit my 2nd shot on a par 5 way left, so I take the cart ahead to look for it while my brother takes his time getting ready for his shot.

I'm standing in the rough a long ways ahead when I hear him yell "Fore!". I look up and notice that his stance is aimed straight at me. So i duck, cover and go running towards the middle of the fairway, figuring that was my quickest route to safety.

I'm 10 yards into the fairway (still ducked down, eyes to the ground, and running) when I see a white blur pass about 18 inches from my face.

I had forgotten that my brother slices.

Potential head trauma -- not that funny. The ridiculous situation -- always good for a chuckle.

That's nothing. My brother was litterally almost killed on the golf course. He took a ball to the cheek from 100 yards out off a driver. He was driving a cart down the path and took it right in the face. It knocked him out and he crashed the cart into a tree. Luckily, there was a group of neuro surgeons a few holes over and they had him rushed to the emergency room (not a good sign when a foursome of neuro surgeons tells you to get your a** to the emergency room ASAP!!). Well as it turns out my brother is the luckiest person in the world because it hit him in the only place that didn't do any real damage. if it hits him one inch higher he looses is eye, one inch to the left and he looses his nose, one inch lower and he looses all his teeth, and one inch to the right and it would have killed him. All he ended up with was a nasty black eye and some dimples on his face.

Practicing at a local driving range and a guy breaks his drivers head which ends up 50 yards down the range. The manager halts the golfers so the guy can pick up his broken head. A bunch of his friends next to me jokingly said "5 bucks to whoever can hit him". An 8 year old kid steps up and rips a drive right for his head that bearly misses him by a few feet. You should have seen the look on his father...I thought the kid was a goner....

I remember I hit someone about 290 off the tee in the spring back when I was in high school back in the 70s. It was 45 degrees outside. I had no idea the ball would travel that far in those condutions. I felt awful. We yelled fore but he didn't hear us in time. I hit him in his right shoulder. He looked like he was wearing football padding on his right shoulder because it had swollen up so much. I've never seen anything like it.

I did manage to hit myself in the groin. Tee shot got a bit too far into the trees and I figured I could bend a shot around the tree and make the green. I set up, imagine the shot in my mind, execute the shot and hold the finish. Problem was I mis-aimed and hit a tree about 10 yards away and it promptly came back and hit me in the groin luckily missing the twins. The other 3 guys were rolling on the ground with tears on their faces. I later had to explain to my wife how I came by that bruise.

I'm still not sure she believes me.

I got em all beat. My dad and I were playing in Greenville, SC, and the tee boxes were situated on a little peninsula out into a lake. Well, about 60-80 yards down the fairway is this rock meant purely for decorations. Well, my dad, Big Tom, gets up and smacks a low line driver with his Billy Club(cheapest Sam's Club driver) and hits the rock squarely. It came back at us so fast, and we were so amazed at how straight it was coming back. Well, it hits Big Tom in the upper thigh and bounces off and hits me in the BALLS! I think I finished that hole about 30 minutes later and made something like a 9. No permanent effects thank God.

A few years ago, a good friend and I were out walking 18 late in the day. On this particular course, there is a reachable par 5 that runs parallel with the par 4 we were on. We were just walking along talking and all of the sudden my friend just drops! We never saw it coming. It took a couple of seconds and this guy comes over from the other fairway. He looks at my friend on the ground and says "Has anyone seen my ball?". No sorry or anything. He didn't have a clue where it had went. Royce says yes I think it is embedded in my chest. The guy turns bright red and starts to say how sorry he was...Evidently, he had a three wood for his second shot and was only about 50 yards away. He smoked it and then looked up and it was gone. The sun was back in his face and he couldn't see us or yell FORE.... As I look back, it is one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Wasn't real funny then though...

I also hit myself one time...I hit my drive under a tree on a par 5 and thought I could punch out and maybe get it within wedge range. I swung, the ball hit the tree solid (which was only about 10 feet in front of me) and went straight back into my shin. Figured this was the one time I was managed to hit that five wood solid. This was 4 years ago and the knot is still there.

I was on the 9th hole last summer and was getting ready to tee off when I looked down the fairway and I saw an employee mowing so I backed off. He was about 350 yards out and waved me on. By the time I addressed the ball and swung he was about 270 yards out and I hit him square in the chest and knocked him off his tractor. By the time I got there he was laying in the fairway laughing. I apologized many times and he just looked at me and smiled and said "I'm just glad it was not a foot higher or it would have knocked out my last two teeth". We all had a good laugh and he had a heck of a bruise. He still laughs and runs everytime he sees me coming.

I've got a few funny ones but I'll just tell one, because it happenen to me just today, and the timing of it couldn't have been wierder. I was at a par 3 with 8 iron in hand, I get ready to hit, set up to the ball, begin my backswing, then power through to the ball, and at THE EXACT moment off impact a ball hit my in the back off the leg behind my knee. I had no idea what just happened, I though my leg had exploded or a nerve just went crazy or something, it took me a while to realise what just happened. My friends said it looked like the wierdest thing because when I hit, one ball went forward and the other bounced backward. I looked ahead and somehow the ball found the green, got some check and it came down a ridge toward the hole and I lipped out for a bird. Wierdest feeling I've ever had.

My 2 best stories of golf balls on body. Me and a friend were playing a chipping game during school practice, and we had an awkward lie. I, foresaw bad things happening when my friend stood to the side of my target direction. It flew directly at him, but he had his back turned. 1/2 a second before impact with his face, he whips around and uses his baseball reflexes, catching it. 2nd best story would be me getting hit with a club, not ball. My brother had (had) a tendency to whip his club back after his followthrough/finish. I didnt know this at the time, so I casually walked behind him to get some of his range balls, when a club comes flying at my shins. Pain unimaginable, but funny nonetheless. This was also at 8:00 at night so my screams didn't bother many people
