SIX and Diamana

I ordered two more X-460 8.5 Tour heads with two different shafts from the 26.3 that is standard. They are a Diamana 63 gram ($100 upgrade) in X and a Fuji SIX 59 gram ($50 upgrade)in X. First the SIX is a marked improvement from the 26.3 Tour Platform launches slightly higher and goes measureably farther. Feels good at impact as well. Easy to turn over or hit a controlled fade. The Diamana doesn't do much for this club and is not quite as good as the 26.3 Tour Platform for distance. The workability is about the same for all three shafts. Plus I can only speak for the X SIX the S SIX is a pretty weak shaft in terms of a true S. Just a heads up that there are some other shafts that may be better than the standard shaft with the X-460. In June I guess they will have the X-460 heads to try with the various shafts in the opti fit cart.

I have a 757 speeder shaft in my 8.5* X 460 Tour and it is a marked improvement. Still have no trouble getting the ball up in the air but ball flight is more boring than OEM Fuji TP shaft. This clubhead just launches the ball high. Much improved feel with this heavier 757 shaft and I can really stand on it now. The TP shaft doesn't tolerate aggressive swings as well and often results in just higher trajectory. The 757 on the other hand holds its trajectory well and will yield more distance with more ss. Just like the FT-3 the black shaft looks nice at address with the black clubhead too.

Good point showing there are many "better" shaft options for the X-460 that weren't available early on. Trouble is they take the club up in price.

True but how much have we all spent looking for those few extra yards and/or a few more fairways? I guess we each have to determine how much that is worth to our enjoyment of this STUPID, STUPID game we play! :golfer:

 

The thing people need to realize is that all of the new clubheads will pretty much hit the ball the same distance. One may fit your eye better, or your swing (ie. open vs closed face) but it's the shaft that you should invest your money in. I hit the stock X 460 Tour 15-25 yards shorter than I do with a 757. Same clubhead, just more horsepower. THAT is where 90% distance, trajectory and accuracy comes from hence more $$$.

Anyone know what the upcharge is for an X-460 with the Speeder 757 shaft in it?

 

I plan on taking another look at more shaft options once the Opti-fit system has this driver head. Right now, I've got an NV65, but I'm not sold on the NV's performance.

Excellent point which is why other than cosmetics people getting excited over a head is really a moot point. Callaway's fitting stand should help a lot getting rid of the cut and try mentality. Even though it will probably cost more you will get a much better fit driver by matching the shaft for yourself. Even the launch monitor vans don't have this number of shaft selections available in all the heads and lofts to try. Keep in mind, however, you will be fitted with a 1/2 inch shorter shaft which callaway had to do to make up for the weight of the opti-fit hardware. But this won't make much difference in the finished club.

 

Don't know what the upcharge for the 757 is but I saw once silver fuji shaft that had a $200 upcharge with it---some fit on that isn't available until the summer.

Last summer I purchased a FT-3 Tour with a Speeder 757 shaft. Callaway's upcharge for the Speeder 757 was $125.00 at that time.

Damn, that was a deal! I paid almost $300 to have mine reshafted by my fitter.

But the Diamana in the FT-3 Tour head is a different story night and day better than any others. Almost brings it to a level with the best X-460. Looks like they did undercharge me for the Diamana in the X-460 because it is a $200 upcharge in the FT-3 I ordered. Great fun to try 24 shafts and 6 heads with this cart system. Certainly better than changing weights all day with the same shaft which ain't going to amount to a hill of beans performance wise.
