Purple Ice Golf Shaft

I'm not sure if you can answer my question or not. I recently tried one of my friend's drivers on the weekend. He had a Purple Ice 65g Stiff shaft and I have to say that it is the nicest feeling shaft I've ever tried. I have a problem though.

I just bought a Cleveland Hibore and it has a .350 tip size.. and I use a 45.5 inch shaft. I belive that the Purple Ice shaft only comes in a .335 tip size.

I'm not familliar with making clubs is there any way I can get a Purple Ice 65 gram stiff into my hibore?
can a person trim it to fit? If so would you recomend bumping up to a 75 gram?

Exactly, no reason not to use a brass shim like the one below:

 

It's just as strong and effective as if you'd use a .350 tip. It's not even any more difficult to install. If your clubmaker doesn't know how to install one, or advises you to buy a new shaft, find a new clubmaker.

Use the weight that fits you and that you're most comfortable with. Don't go up in weight to satisfy a clubmaking concern, a good clubmaker will find a way around it. :golfer:

Thanks for all the Great info guys... One more question... How much does trimming length affect the weight of the club. for example if I buy a 45" club and shave 3/4 to a half inch off... how much weight am I loosing. Does this also affect the Flex?

The weight loss to the shaft will be minimal, but the swing weight loss will be significant. If the club starts at D2, chopping 3/4" off will result in 4.5 swing weight points taking it down to C7.5. The new club will feel very light in the head unless you get some lead tape on it or apply some hot melt to the head.

 

When you butt cut the shaft, although the flex will be "stiffer" if someone took a butt CPM reading (because of a relatively lighter head on the shorter shaft), since the tip and bend point of the shaft are unaffected, the flex isn't really any different. However, if you reweight the head heavier, it may make the shaft feel softer.

 

Hopefully taht didn't confuse you, I know this stuff can be weird at times. All the more reason to get to a good clubfitter / clubbuilder.

That is a great shaft. Exept. I don't think it comes in a 65 gram. Golfworks.com lists it at 85 grams. It has great touque 2.5* and when you catch it, Man, it can go. I used to play this shaft in my Wishon 915cfe before my new Callaway. I would recommend it. . . . Shim it, it is really easy. You can do it.

The Purple Ice shaft does come in an .350 tip. Check Ebay as there are some on there right now for sale. I would just shim the .335 tip shaft to fit. If you ever decide to change heads, it will be easier to find a head that accepts a .335 shaft than a .350 shaft. JMO.
