All i can say is anyone that is planning on attending the us open wont be disapointed the place looked georgeous today and that was with all the tents going up and three greens being re done. It sucks that they shut the west and east courses down for the members though.

Do you know if he dropped one driver and put two 3 woods in the bag to accomodate the tight US Open course? :golfer:

He's going to more 3,4,5 woods instead of two drivers. Winged foot is very tight

that does suck, because even the East course is a great test of golf! It's not nearly as long as it's sister, but man is it a good test. It has very tiny greens which are very tricky to putt. I got to play it 2 yrs ago, a couple months after the US Amateur (nice perk of my job). I started out Birdie/Birdie (#2 is a nice short par 5, I hit it with a 4 iron... played as a par 4 for the US Amateur), and still shot 78. You miss those greens, and you're asking for trouble. #12 is a very nice par 5, and #17 is a bear of a par 3!

 

The East course played about 1.5 strokes easier than the West in the US Amateur, but keep in mind it was 400-500 yards shorter.

 

The West was a bear that week. I wouldn't call it super tight. ANy US OPEN course is going to be tight, but this one is not like landing it on a 2 lane road. However, if they grow the rough like the did for the Amateur (I assume they'll grow it more) and get those greens running at 12, man... It'll be fun to see. However, if it's a rainy week, I actually think it's a course the pros can score on.

I have tickets to Wednesday's practice rounds (and a good digital camera) and Saturday. Sunday, I'll watch from the air conditioned comfort of my own home.

I was there today.

 

The West Course is open, but to members only....no guests. The East course is closed and has been for a while as that's where most of the tents are being set up.

Hey Tmag, I have kind of a goofy question. Does the course at winged foot not being used for the tournament close during the week of the tournament, or is it still open and available for pro's to practice on as well? I remember the hefty lefty going over to the other course at Oakland Hills during the Ryder Cup to practice and get away from the distractions and was just curious if the pro's utilized that facility as well.

I am pretty sure its going to be closed but I can find out, i dont know why they would want to switch courses, i knw when they play the Barclays Classic at Westchester CC the pros play the West Course and the North Course is closed except for the putting green and chipping area.
