Putter lie angle adjustment - center shaft

Recommended Posts

I have a center shafted Yes putter (Natalie model 35"). It's too flat at address. I find myself bending more to get my eyes over the ball and it puts my hands to close to my nuts. I want them in a more natural hanging position (the hands not the nuts). I guess I could shorten it, but I'm 6'1" and I like how it feels.

Anyone have any experience adjusting the lie angle on a center shafted putter (with a straight shaft)? Can you just bend the shaft near the putter head to get the proper affect? I think I only need a couple degrees... Help.

I know this is a very old thread, but I have almost the exact same question. My father built me a new Wishon center-shafted putter. It's a belly putter, and while I have the length right, the lie is too upright.

The problem is that the putter head has no hosel and the shaft obviously isn't a double-bender. So, is it possible to bend the straight shaft a degree or two? (Or will this just lead the shaft to collapse.) How does one properly adjust lie angle on a center-shafted putter?

you can bend anything....cept with a cneter shafted putter you will be bending the shaft itself...which you have to be careful doing without breaking.

Thanks for the replies.

To uno: yes, I was thinking I would carefully heat the shaft and then only bend it one or two degrees. I realise this is something I'll have to be careful with, but thanks for confirming that it can be done.

To ifixclubs: will a bend in the shaft of a degree or two (at the point it enters the putter head) be in violation of USGA rules?

Thanks again!

I believe on the YES website it would help clear up your questions. Pretty much all the mid mallets and larger putters are designed for straight back and thru putting styles. Which for the most part would put your eyes further over the putter.

Center shaft putters would pretty much be the same idea, the only difference would be if you wanted the lie angle to be 2 degree upright it may help get your hands away from from your body a little.

I bent a straight/mid shafted two-ball flat (you could do the same for upright).

I removed the shaft and grabbed ahold of the "male part" that enters the shaft and bent it flat.
A steel pipe that has an I.D. similar to the O.D. of the "male part" worked great.
Dry-fitted the new shaft to take a lie/loft reading...then epoxied it in (also adjusted loft 1* while I was at it).

If the shaft goes into the head - then you'd need to bend the shaft.
But I'm guessing that the Yes putter has a similar "male part" that enters the bottom of the shaft.

I could be wrong though. I've never re-shafted a Yes.
