help chosing courses

Hey folks I am heading to Ft lauderdale in may for a golf outing and I need some info on the best tracks to play. Can anyone suggest any good courses? These are the ones that we have to pick from.

Bonaventure Golf Club East

Bonaventure Golf Club West

East is the better of the two, but nothing special. There are better choices.

 

Colony West - Champion

Nice layout. Can be difficult if the wind blows. This was supposed to be the new home of the Jackie Gleason Classic (Honda Classic), but it was deemed too hard by a few pros that played it as a test.

 

Colony West - Glades

Don't bother unles you like executive courses.

 

Doral (Miami) [blue Monster]

What can I say, it's Doral. I'd play it if you have the chance.

 

Inverrary Golf Club East

I play here a lot. Not my favorite, but not a bad layout. Jackie Gleason Classic moved here after Colony West was deemed too hard.

 

Inverrary Golf Club West

Shorter than the East. I like the course, but the East is usually in better condition.

 

Jacaranda Golf Club East

Course was just redone. I havn't played yet. I liked it before they tore it up though.

 

Jacaranda Golf Club West

Never played, but I'vd heard good things.

 

Palm-Aire Cypress

I play here quite a bit. Conditioning can be spotty, but it is usually pertty good. Layout is a little tighter than the Oaks requiring straight shots.

 

Palm-Aire Oaks

I like the Cypress better, but the Oaks is good too.

 

Palm-Aire Palms

Palm-Aire Pines

Never played. I'd rather play the Oaks or Cypress.

 

The Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort North

The Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort South

Never played either, but heard good things

 

TPC at Heron Bay

Nice layout, always in good condition, former home of Honda Classic. I play here when I get a chance.

 

Carolina Club

I play here a lot also, like the course. Always in good shape. Greens are good.

 

The Club at Emerald Hills

Never played here, but heard great things. I'd put this on my list.

 

Diplomat Club

Never played

 

 

I'd also recommend Deer Creek in Deerfield Beach. Very nice course. Miami Beach Golf Club. Greta course. Probably the best conditioned daily fee course in South Florida. It's my favorite in the area. Crandon Park (Key Biscayne). Great course.

Miami Beach is my home course. Great track, tough with the beach breezes. Currently starting the summer punch and top dress, but still a nice place to play. Always green.

 

Palm Aire Oaks. That is deffinately a solid course, strong test of accurate tee shots. Not always in the best condition but the greens are quick and the fairways are tight.

 

The Diplomat is a little pricey, though it is a very nice course. Some tricked up holes. Some really nice looking holes though.

 

Crandon Park/Key Biscayne is definately worth the drive from Ft L. Really a tough course from any tee. Can be particularly difficult when the wind is up which it almost always is. Super hard, slick, undulated greens. All sourounded by thick mangrove patches that won't forgive an errant shot. Tough test of golf.

 

Inverary both courses are fun. West is more of an approach shot course, small rounded over greens with some speed, tough to hit. East is more resort styled emphasizing long drives, appraoches to large quick greens. Usually in good shape, though I haven't been there for a while.

 

Add to your list of possibles The Links at Madison Green, Okahelee Golf and Country Club, Hillcrest Country Club in Ft L. All worth a run, Hillcrest is nearby and in great shape as they were closed for number of months following the hurricanes, did a lot of renovations. Ufourtunately the only green not in good shape is the signature island green on the 18th.

Get yourself a PGA passport from the South Florida PGA the savings on Emerald hills and diplomat will outway the $45 cost. there is a brand ne course in Plantation called Plantation preserve and it is awsome! Bonaventure is just not in great shape and Palm aire is a crap hole......no better way to say it.

The TPC at Heron bay is in awsome condition if you don't mind a day at he beach (108 sand traps) Jacaranda redid thier greens recently but the jury is still out on the rest of thier property.

don't miss out on Miami Beach golf club because it is also beauty!
