I was wondering which sunscreen do you use? Especially now that summer is beginning.

I usually use banana boat, but find that it is a little greasy and don't like how the grips feel in my hand, almost feels like it's going fling out if I swing too hard.

Any suggestions?

wipe your hands on the tee box--always gets rid of the greasy feel for me.

I've just boughten and been using a product called "Aveeno" Continuous Protection Sunblock Lotion "SPF 30". This stuff seems to work well, isn't greasy and seems to do the job, only my demotologist can tell for sure. I"m pretty light complected so I need the ultimate in protection. :golfer:

If you're tired of the greasy feel, there's no better option than Neutrogena's Ultra Sheer Sun Block. It's expensive at $8 a tube, but it drys perfectly, absolutley no oily residue anywhere. It's PABA free, so no allergies, and it doesn't rub off or lose it's coverage from sweating. It also doesn't dry out your skin like other sun screens can.

Best $8 you can spend.

I use the choice of tour caddies...Iguana. It is waterproof and sweat proof and does not burn your eyes if sweat rolls into them. Oncologists in US rated it number one. Problem is since Iguana got the military contract to provide for our military worldwide it is hard to find. It is doubled with an insect repellent that keeps mosquitos, gnats, etc away and smells good too. Guess that is why the military uses exclusively. It is manufactured in my area so I can get it in blister packs that fit in the bag nicely. Doesn't take half a bottle either and lasts a full eight hours. The Salt water proof actually works at the ocean too. Put it on, go in the water, and don't worry about it the rest of the day.

I swear by Coppertone Sport spf 30. Great stuff, no sticky residue. Sometimes on the course I use this other stuff that has a "no hands" foam applicator, but I can't remember the brand.

That's the one I use too. I've tried pm hackers Neutrogena a few times but I feel the Coppertone stays on longer. I've also used IronMan and Bullfrog which works pretty good too although I seem to sweat more when I wear those.

Guys, do yourself a favor and use a sunscreen. I was like a lot of you and would be too stupid to take it out of my bag and put it on. The next thing I know the doctor is taking a large chunk out of my neck because of skin cancer. I now use a widebrim hat as well as the sunscreen. I have regular visits to the dermatologist to make sure there are no more. If you have places you are not sure of, schedule a visit to the doctor to have them checked.

Thanks for all the input, I came across this article that might interest all of you:

http://www.consumersearch.com/www/family/s...reen/index.html

Basically in a nutshell, you should look for an item that will block both UVA and UVB.

I did not know that. So far the products listed here, Neutrogena has both and the coopertone sport does not.

Thanks again,

Ken

Ken,

That's a good article for highlighting the importance of broad spectrum UV coverage. However, it's over a year and a half old.

Now it's pretty much a given that just about all sun screen's have both UVA and UVB coverage. Even Coppertone and Bullfrog have them now.

True, BUT I just went at lunch to pick up some sunscreen, and not all have both protection, or atleast the product didn't state that. I picked up the Neutrogena ultrasheer sunblock, for one, it didn't feel greasy and it dried very quickly and second, it was the only one that was listed here (except for the coppertone sport). So, why take the chance and only a couple of bucks more.

Another question. Has anyone used the spray type sunscreen? Do you have to rub it in? OH I almost forgot, Neutrogena has a sunscreen that's like a deodorant stick that you rub on... very cool! :)

Anywhos,

Ken

I use a sunscreen called "KINeSYS." I have found it used primarily by cyclists, but the great thing is that it's not greasy at all, and comes in some smaller packaging that fits well into your golf bag. A bit more on the expensive side -but I prefer a spray, and I prefer it to be lighter and not too scented. This stuff rocks.

I agree with all those who use the Neutrogena sunblock. When it dries, you feel like you don't have anything on. You can also get it in a two pack at costco for something like $13. There was also a study done on the new SPF55 that they just came out with, that showed the sunscreen lasted an average 18 hole round, without reapplication.

Another FYI, there's a difference between sunscreens and sunblocks. Sunscreens are chemical blockers that absorb into the skin and breakdown the ultraviolet rays within the skin. Sunblocks are physical barriers that truly block out and reflect the ultraviolet rays and heat from the sun. You should always use a sunblock is possible, as it provides a little better protection for your skin. The two most common sunblocks are titanium and zinc oxide. The microfine ones are even nicer, as they don't leave a white film behind on your skin. BTW, the only reason I know all of this, is cause I'm a Pharmaceutical Rep that works with Dermatologists.

Do you have current documentation on that study?

Ken

Yeah, I'd be interested to see that too.

The dermatologists I know all swear that if you're using anything over SPF 30, you're not getting any benefit from wearing it longer. Just use SPF 30 reapply every 2 hours.

Aveeno claims that they have an ingredient in their sunscreen that keeps it from breaking down due to sun exposure, apperently sunscreens do this, making it last up to 8 hours.

I use this stuff too, however I found it in a bottle with a clip like those that are on our golf towels that I have attached to my bags. I like that it isn't all that greasy and is easily accessible with the clip fastened to my towel ring on my bags.

I don't have that particular study, but I saw it at a recent conference I attended. I don't work for Neutrogena, so unfortunately I don't have access to their studies. If I come across the study I'll let you guys know.
