RAC LT2's or X-Tour's?

I hit them side by side, the surprising result was....
I am a 9 to 11 handicap that strikes my irons well and struggles with short game.
Have been hitting several different irons, searching for forgivness with some traditional
looks (as I am coming from MP30's that look and feel good but are a little too demanding.)

I have considered and hit the following: x tours, LT2's, CG2's, Srixon 302's, Hogan FTX's,
and Titleist 735's. Narrowed my choice to x tours and Lt2's as they looked and felt good
and were the most forgiving of the group.

I hit them side by side today and the LT2's really, really stood out to me. Good consistent
striking and great forgivness. Felt pretty soft for a cast club. Xtours were good too
but just seemed to feel better with the Lt2's.

Let me know what you think of these LT2's. Am I going to regret my decision later? I only
was able to hit 6 irons in both sets. Will I be dissappointed with long and short irons in the
LT2's.

Also, what shaft do you recommend? I believe the LT2's had the t step shaft which I
know nothing about.

All comments are greatly appreciated.

The LT2's are great irons. Have 'em myself. I dont think youll regret your decision, I cant forsee taking mine out of the bag for awhile.

The T Steps are actually not bad for a stock shaft. Im no expert, but for being stock they are pretty nice. You could always put some Dynamic Gold's or Dynamic Gold SL's like I have in mine. I really like the SL's.

Hope this helps!

Did you find that putting the DGSL's together with the LT2's launched the ball even higher than with the stock shaft ? Just wondering as I tested the LT2's with the stock staff and was already launching the ball much higher that I though it should go. Have the MP32's right now with the DGSL's and am experiencing a fairly high ball flight (even with the sticks bent a degree strong).

I tried the LT2's and honestly was unimpressed...the alleged lower trajectory as the name states was nonexistant...the feel was great but the ball flight wasnt very good so thus i did not like them. I hit the x-tours a few times and they were awesome....great ball flight and feel...callaway definately got this iron set right :golfer:

I switch from X-Tours to LT2 towards the end of last year. I have not looked back at all. The X-Tours are very good irons. Very forgiving for the for the players they are tageted for and feel nice on well struck shots. But my ball striking worsened last year and I needed something more forgiving. I demoed a couple of irons including, MX-23, Cobra 2300, Bridgestone CB among others and the LT2 stood out for me too. The were very forgiving and felt great. They felt better then the MX-23 and BS forgings to me. I have owned MP-32's so I know what a good forging feels like. The T Step shafts are pretty good but they are critizied a lot on golf forums because they are light at 110g and have a mid bend point. These shafts probably don't fit the people that are looking for players CB's. For me the T Step shaft are fine, they are easier to swing vs DG's and don't balloon on me. You really cannot go wrong with either. Since you like the LT2 more and the are much cheaper I think it is a pretty easy decision.

No, I maintained the same ballflight when I put the SL's in. More of a mid-flight rather than low or high.

I have hit a set of LT2's but I play X-tours becuase they are almost as forgiving, offer better feel especially around the green (ie. chipping, pitching with 8,9 PW) and I also hit them about 10-15 yards further depending on the iron. I also like that the X-tours can be bent more easily and more frequently to accomodate my swing tbroughout the set. LT2's are beautiful sticks but the results I get from my X-tours are more beautiful. The LT name is a misnomer though. They are still high launch with T steps and the sole on the short irons has too much bounce for me. Quite a bit more than my X-tours and the trailing egde isn't ground like the X-tours.

I've played and demo'd many irons. The LT2's are in my bag and aren't coming out any time soon!

They feel the best overall to me. I didn't like the setup of the X-Tours. To me, the top line is still too thick even though not as bad as other Callaway clubs.

The shaft I use in the LT2's is the Dynamic Gold with Sensicore. It's been a great shaft for me, good trajectory and soft feel.

If the LT2's feel good to you now you won't regret them later!

Thanks,

Bert-B

Johnman1969 - asides from the fact that my name is John and I was born in 1969, i also considered many of the same clubs you did, and went from the FTX to the LT2...no regrets. The feel is very soft and satisfying, they set up cleanly, look great in the bag, and are a nice, no-nonsense set of clubs. I have to believe that they will be quite a bit more forgiving than the X-Tours given the increased offset and larger face size, although i've never hit the latter.

Bottom line, if you like the LT2, go for it. i recall that before i bought them, i would always come back to check them out at my local shop, they just seemed to make the most sense to me. Good luck.

LTs are really great clubs. They look good at address, the feed back is also very good. For me, the distance control is very good, especially for the short irons. They are like lasers and if you like them, go for it. I tried X-tours when I was getting new irons and they just never felt good in my hands.

Johnman, I play the original LT's and I believe you can't go wrong with them. In general, they get better reviews overall than the Xtours although the Xtours have their hardcore following too. I play dynamic gold in the LT's and although I really like their ballflight and consistency, they are heavy and kind of wear on me when I reach number 15. Since I have 2 sets, I am thinking of reshafting 1 set with dynamic gold sl's since they have the same swingweight, are about 24 grams lighter and others here and at other sites rave about them. As far as the LT2's, I have never hit them but they seem to set up nice and look pretty good to me. I will probably give them a whirl in the not too distant future. My experience with stock steel TM shafts have always been a pretty good one. Unless you really have a high swingspeed and like to control your ballflight (neither of which is me) I think the TM stock steel shafts are pretty good. Steel shafts IMHO haven't made any great leaps and bounds as have the present graphite shafts and seem to fit most mid and high handicap golfers plus a few lower handicap golfers as well. As always, try before you buy to see what works for you but don't discount the stock steel shafts until you try them. And as always, just my 2 cents and my opinion.
