Swingweight in drivers

I just had my 905R reshafted with a fujikura 757 S, and the clubfitter told me that it was D9 swingweight. Is that right? The shaft uncut is 77 grams, and the length is the standard 45". It did feel really heavy to me though. Could any of you give me some advice about your driver's swingweight?

D7 would sound about right. I came up with that if the head weighs 205 grams and you use a grip weighing around 51 grams.

As far as advice for driver SW, I keep mine around D2, which is mid to high. I haven't heard of anyone going over say D4...

 

Really? Ernie's is D-8 and Davis Love's is D-5. Over D-4 is more common than you think, esp. on the pro circuit

I would agree that it should fall somewhere in the D4 to D6 range. My Ft-3 with 757 is D6 and my X 460 Tour with 757 is D6.5. Generally stiffer aftermarket shafts are a bit 'beefier' to handle higher ss and acceleration needed to load the shafts properly. The heavier weight will also help keep your tempo smoother as many higher ss players tend to get a bit quick sometimes in our aggressive first move down toward the ball. Heavier shafts will also help keep the trajectory down and under control. Higher ss will tend to yield higher ball flight.

I would think that raw head 905R is somewhere in the 208 to 209 gram range. If you are using a Decade Multi-compound grip, they weigh 44 grams. From the average grip weight of 52 grams, this differential is about 4 swing weights difference. For every 1/4" under or over you change swing weight by approximately 1.5 swing weights.

 

I personally like my drivers in the D-4 to D-6 weight range, just my personal preference. :golfer:

I play my r7 TP with a swingweight of D3. My shaft is a speeder 757 45"

my j33r was D-6 with a little lead tape. my xtour460 is a d-7 out the box. both at 45"
